The business lunch went smoothly, with all the agendas being agreed upon and everything seeming promising. Benicio noticed that Adrian was attentive to everything and even made intelligent and favorable suggestions for the company.
"Well, gentlemen, it was a pleasure having lunch with you. We will be formulating a document with everything that was agreed upon here, and we will send it to you in writing. If you agree with everything, we will send the contract," explained Benicio as he stood up.
"I truly hope that our partnership can be successful. I am very excited, and your team also seems to be very competent," the man extended his hand to Benicio and also looked at Adrian.
"Yes, I believe that this time I made the right choice with my team," Benicio also looked at Adrian.
Everyone who was in that meeting said their goodbyes and left the restaurant. Their cars were brought by their drivers. Inside the car, Benicio thanked Adrian and gave him some more instructions.
"Thank you for your work today. For your first day, you are doing very well. I think all those specifications on your resume were not exaggerated."
"Thank you, sir. It is my job, and I always try to give my best."
"Then keep it up," Benicio gave a slight smile to Adrian.
Benicio was still trying to maintain his demeanor as a cold boss, but Adrian had already noticed that it didn't seem to be exactly who he was. As soon as they returned to the company, Adrian went to take care of the document that Benicio had requested. The same looks that he noticed when he came back made him decide to ask his boss's secretary, as she was one of the people who welcomed him warmly in that place.
"Gabriela, can you tell me if something is going on here? After I left the meeting, I noticed some strange looks and whispers."
"To tell you the truth, Adrian, I saw some people whispering in the corridors, but I don't know what they were talking about. I normally avoid getting involved in these gossips that go around here, but if you want, I can try to find out what it's about; if it's something related to you, I'll let you know."
"Thank you. Maybe it's just my imagination, but if it's not, I prefer to resolve any misunderstanding that may have happened."
After talking to Gabriela, Adrian went to his office, as his boss had requested, and started writing the document. Benicio could monitor the progress of what he was doing by sharing the file with him from his own office, allowing him to evaluate it.
At a certain moment, Adrian was called to the president's office. He left what he was doing and went out, but he didn't notice that Fabio was watching and waited for him to leave the room. As soon as Adrian left, Fabio saw an opportunity to harm him.
Fabio went straight to Adrian's computer and noticed that there was a document open on the screen. He quickly glanced at it and realized what it was, with no doubt about what to do next. Fabio deleted the document that was almost ready, which would mean that Adrian would probably miss the deadline if it was required that day.
After completing his action, Fabio left the office, being careful not to be seen. He would stay nearby to see if his plan would have an effect.
Adrian returned from Benicio's office with a document in his hands, intended to be attached to what he was working on. However, when he sat in front of the computer, he immediately noticed that something was wrong. The document he was working on was no longer on the screen.
"What the hell happened?" he was perplexed.
Adrian closed several tabs and searched for the document, but he couldn't find it. There was no way the file could have disappeared on its own. He checked the time and realized that he wouldn't be able to recreate the document in time. His only remaining option was to ask the boss to send it to his computer again through sharing.
With no other choice, Adrian returned to Benicio's office. His entry was allowed, but Fabio was also in the room.
"Sir, could you transfer the file with the document back to me? I don't know what happened, but when I came to collect the papers you gave me, the document disappeared from my files."
"Wasn't it saved?" Benicio found it strange.
"Yes, it was being saved automatically, but it disappeared from everywhere."
Fabio merely watched the turn of events, not revealing his involvement in the situation, especially that the file was being shared in real-time.
"I will send it to you again, but make sure to lock your computer when you leave or that the file is saved before leaving. If we weren't sharing it in real-time, we wouldn't be able to send it today, as promised."
"I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again. I will be more careful next time."
Adrian left, and Benicio accessed the file they were sharing. Based on the modification time, he calculated that Adrian was in his office at that moment, which intrigued him.
"A beginner's mistake. The first rule is to save the document you're working on," he commented, drawing the president's attention.
"Shouldn't you have said that while he was still in the room? What you're doing is also a mistake. I don't like this kind of pettiness in my company. The document has already been signed. You may leave."
Fabio felt embarrassed but also irritated that Benicio had called him out. Based on what he had heard about Benicio, he imagined Adrian would be reprimanded more severely. However, Benicio was not someone who allowed himself to be influenced by comments. Based on what he observed from Adrian at the restaurant, he realized that Adrian was attentive to his tasks.
