As soon as Adrian left, Carla started a series of questions not only about the previous night, but also about the fact that he had called her out in front of an employee.
"Where were you yesterday that you didn't answer my phone call? And how could you speak to me like that in front of any employee?"
"I was with Danilo. As for calling you out, did you expect me to allow you to do whatever you wanted and say whatever you felt like? Just as you said yourself, we were in front of an employee and you were being disrespectful. Do you think I'll allow people to think they can do whatever they want with me?"
Carla didn't expect him to react that way, although she had entered his office unannounced before, he had never reprimanded her like that.
"It's not that, Benicio. You seem very stressed lately. I am your fiancee. Do you think it's right to speak to me like that, especially in front of other people?"
Benicio sighed and stood up to get a glass of water. Carla took the opportunity to approach him, trying to seduce him with all the charm she could muster.
"What's going on with you? I can try to help you if something is bothering you. Just tell me, I'll understand," she caressed his chest and kissed him.
If Carla knew that it wasn't as simple as she thought. He couldn't share with her what he was feeling, after all, he didn't even accept his own desires and wants. How could he expect her to accept them?
"It's just business matters, Carla. It wouldn't do any good to vent to you, as you wouldn't understand these boring business matters," he moved away from her.
Carla was about to retort that statement from her fiance, feeling offended as if he thought she was shallow. However, someone knocked on the door, and Benicio allowed them to enter.
"Sir, you have a meeting in five minutes. Everyone is already heading to the conference room," Adrian informed his boss.
"Thank you, Adrian. I'm on my way."
Adrian left the room once again, while Benicio started gathering some papers on his desk. Carla resumed her interrogation.
"I had never seen this guy at the company before. Did he start working here recently?"
"Yes, he is my new assistant. Besides, he was the person I ran over."
"Wait, are you telling me that this guy blackmailed you to get a job? What can you expect from people like that? You shouldn't have let him get close to you, my love."
Benicio slammed the papers he had in his hand on the desk, appearing irritated with her once again.
"I've asked you to stop referring to people like that. He didn't threaten me or anything like that. He has an excellent resume, he is competent and responsible. On the day I ran him over, he was already coming for an interview, Carla. Don't create conspiracy theories or see things that aren't there."
"You know what, Benicio? I don't know what's going on with you, but you should think carefully about how you've been treating me lately. We are getting closer to the wedding and I should be worried about preparations and stressed, but it's you who has been showing all this nervousness. Now, you even fight with me because of a simple employee. I'm leaving now, and I hope you reconsider your attitude."
Carla grabbed her purse and left the room. As she walked down the hallway, she ran into Adrian, looking at him with disgust and anger. Adrian was confused, not understanding the reason for so much hostility.
Adrian returned to his boss's office. Benicio was leaning against the desk, as if trying to calm himself down. Adrian became worried, thinking that Benicio might not be feeling well again, and questioned him.
"Sir, are you feeling unwell?"
"No, let's just go to that meeting already." Benicio took a deep breath and grabbed the papers he needed.
The two entered the meeting room. However, Carla did not leave the company as she had said. She had someone inside the company who informed her about things, and she went to that person's room to find out more about the man that Benicio hired as his assistant.
"Miss, I didn't know you were in the company," said the person who provided her with information.
"Yes, but it seems that lately my presence here has been bothersome. However, I didn't come because of that. Do you know anything about the man that Benicio hired as his assistant?"
"I don't have much information about him. I know that, among the three candidates, he was the one chosen, and from what I know, he took the longest in the interview. However, all the candidates were hired."
"I don't trust him. I think he might have threatened to sue Benicio or something like that since my fiance hit him with the car. I don't want him to be near Benicio. Call one of the other candidates who also passed the interview. I want someone more ambitious. I will deal with this opportunist."
Carla was determined to keep Adrian away from Benicio, believing that it wasn't pure coincidence that he was hit by a car and then hired by her fiance. She considered Benicio competent in business but not as good at assessing people as she believed herself to be.
