“YOU WANT TO BE A KNIGHT?! YOU?!” Liam yells, appalled. Avery knew that Liam would not believe that she would want to be a knight because ever since Avery was little, she wanted to become a princess who would never get her hands dirty.
Avery sighs, “Is that a problem? To be honest I want to be stronger and protect myself in the future. I don’t want to have guards who are afraid of me because of my hair color. They all think I am a witch. When the time comes, the guards are definitely not going to help me.”
Liam’s eyes widened in surprise by this sudden remark.
“Okay then,” He says as he pats her head, “but we are going to fire your guards.”
“Huh?”
“Because I have someone in mind to guard you. Besides, if your guards are scared of you, what is the point of having them? Anyways, you will soon be separate from me because we are in different grades so I won’t be able to protect you in the academy,” Liam states bluntly.
“What do you mean?” Avery continues, “Who do you have in mind?”
Liam smiles devilishly and states, “Damien.”
"Damien, your best friend?" Avery screams nervously. Damien has been Liam's best friend since they were born. Unlike Liam- Damien was unfriendly and cold, but still somehow managed to get a crowd of fangirls anywhere he went. The reason why he had fangirls was because he looks beautiful- he had dark black hair that was long enough to be wavy while his eyes were light gray which could pierce your heart if you stared to deeply. Even though his complexion was beautiful, his personality was rotten.
"Uhh, I think he would refuse to guard me. He hates my guts," Avery states as she tries to back out of having Damien being my personal bodyguard.
"When did I say that?" Damien walks into the room as if he was listening to their conversation the whole time. Damien glares at Liam as he was patting Avery's head unconsciously. This made Liam uncomfortable and he stopped patting.
"H-How did you-" Avery was about interrogate him until he cut her off.
"Your mother let me in and I happened to hear your guy's conversation," Damien stated. Liam chuckles at his reply when she rolls her eyes.
"She would let anyone in the house, huh. It is like our house is open to anyone," Avery mentions.
"Well besides that fact, what are you doing here Dam," Liam questions him.
"We were supposed to practice sword training right now idiot. Your dad is furious," Damien says.
"Oh shoot, I forgot!" Liam stands up from the sofa, "I got to go now but lets continue this conversation later, Avery." After that, Liam runs out of Avery's room in hurry, leaving Avery and Damien.
"Uh so how are you doing?" Avery asks, hoping to break the awkwardness after Liam suddenly left. Damien and Avery share no similarities ever since they were little. Even though Damien and Liam were best friends, Avery was just an outsider to Damien. Of course, Avery knew this too.
"I'm good. How about you?" Damien stands stiff near the door of Avery's room.
"I am good too, thanks for asking," Avery replied.
"I overheard your guy's conversation talking about needing a new bodyguard. I will do it," Damien suddenly states as he leaves.
"Whoa I did not expect that," Avery says under her breath.
"THANK YOU!" Avery smiles and screams loud enough so that Damien could hear her through the hall. Damien and Avery have never had a full conversation before but she always thought that he hated her. Now that she knows that he doesn't hate her, she feels relief.
After that event, Avery opened the red velvet book once more and continued where she left off.
"Damien also fell in love with Holly." Avery said shocked as she read through the book, "She must be a great person if she make Damien, a cold person, to fall for her!" Avery smiles.
As she continued reading on, she noticed something shocking.
