Episode 5

Daria.

My mother was happy, she had always dreamed of being able to take me to my first day of class. The Moon Goddess had fulfilled her wish, so the happiness on her face was more evident.

"Have a nice day, daughter, if you need anything don't hesitate to call me," Mom told me from the car window.

"I'll be fine, so you don't have to worry," I told her.

She gave me a smile, then waved goodbye, Dad did the same. I watched them leave, then sighed and headed into the school.

Everyone stopped to watch me, it was going to be a long day. Trying to ignore them, I headed to what I thought was the principal's office. I knocked and was allowed to enter after the second knock.

"Good morning," I greeted.

"Miss Sullivan, welcome, my name is Maria, I'm the secretary," a woman in her forties greeted me.

"Thank you very much, Miss Maria," I replied.

"The principal will be here in a moment, please take a seat," she said.

I sat in a chair that was in front of the desk. The woman returned to her desk which was in one of the corners of the room. About ten minutes later, an older man entered; his perfect suit and combed hair made him look neat and strict at the same time.

"Good morning," he greeted, adjusting his suit. "Are you Miss Sullivan?"

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Daria Sullivan," I introduced myself, saying the last name that belonged to my father, which exists on my birth certificate.

"Welcome, in these documents you will find everything you need to start your classes." Outside there is a group of young people waiting for you to go with you on a tour of the facilities.

"You are very kind," I said. "Have a good day."

Luckily it had been brief, because the man's intense gaze made me uncomfortable. I knew that my appearance would bring me one or two problems, but I did not expect something to happen on my first day. I went with Jasper, Susana and other kids on the tour of the facilities. After almost half an hour, the person in charge of the tour led us to what would be our first class.

"According to the class schedule, you should be in this room, English class is taught here," he said.

"Thank you," we replied.

He said goodbye and left us in front of the room. The three of us looked at each other before knocking. The truth was that everything was hard on us, but we tried to have the best attitude so that our parents would not worry.

After filling ourselves with encouragement, we knocked, and the teacher let us in.

"Welcome," the teacher said with a warm smile.

"Thank you," we said.

The three of us stood in front of everyone, the gazes and murmurs began. I had good hearing, so I could hear what they were saying.

"She's weird," one whispered softly, but not loud enough for me.

"She's beautiful," whispered another.

"What bad taste," added another.

I couldn't help but smile, because I knew I would have fun.

**

Daria introduced herself as did Jasper and Susana. Then they sat down in what would be their place that day.

"Hello," a boy with a nice smile greeted her. "My name is Santiago, welcome."

"Thank you, Santiago, my name is Daria," she replied.

"Your hair is amazing, what do you dye it with?" another girl asked, joining the conversation.

"It's natural," she replied.

"Impressive," the woman replied, full of surprise.

The rest of the class went normally. Daria was attentive to every explanation, luckily she was a diligent student, so it didn't cost me anything to understand.

Recess time arrived, Susana, Jasper and I went to the cafeteria. From a distance you could hear the hustle and bustle of everyone, a bustle that stopped when we entered. It was really uncomfortable, so I tried to ignore the fact that everyone's eyes were on me.

I headed to the line followed by the boys. While we did, we talked as if nothing. The truth was that I was grateful to Susana and Jasper, because, although we were never the closest friends, the fact that they were now supporting me gave me a little security.

"What did you think of the class?" Susana asked. "It was a little difficult for me at first."

"It was fine for me, it's difficult to adapt again, but I think we'll do well," I said.

Jasper, was silent listening to what we were talking about, it was like that until a group of guys wanted to pass before us without respecting the line. Jasper stopped them, standing in front of them.

"The line starts over there," he told them, pointing to the place.

"Why do it, if I can easily go directly, or are you going to stop me?" one of them said.

Jasper smiled crookedly, I knew him since elementary school and I knew that he had a temper that even he couldn't stand.

"If so, what are you going to do?" I intervened.

"Look, if it's the weirdo," another one of them said.

The truth is that I was filled with anger when I heard him. Jasper approached them in a threatening way, but I would not allow him to get into trouble for me.

"Don't worry, Jasper, that kind of comment doesn't bother me. I've already noticed how closed-minded you are here," I said. The guy approached me and caressed a lock of my hair.

"Looking at you closely, I can see that you are actually beautiful," he said.

His closeness was annoying, so I did not hesitate to take his hand and twist his wrist. He stayed from the pain, while his companions looked at me with surprise.

"If you don't want to lose your hands, try not to touch me again," I told him threateningly.

I gave him a little push, but he fell to the floor, as if I had done it with all my might. The truth is that I was surprised.

"It's better to leave," Susana said.

"We don't have to, they started everything here," added Jasper.

Everyone was silent, because it was evident that Daria had great strength, even despite her small body, which looked fragile.
