He scratched his neck awkwardly.

Another coworker raised a brow. “Aurelian’s got a girl?”

Charlie chuckled.

Charlie

Not a girl, the burned-up mansion on 6th Street. He’s obsessed.

Aurelian blushed.

Aurelian

It’s beautiful! The damage is mostly cosmetic. With care, she’d be stunning again.

“She?” the other man teased.

Charlie

“See?” Charlie smirked. “Told you.”

Aurelian huffed.

Aurelian

Just because something’s old doesn’t mean it’s worthless. If I had the means, I’d restore her myself.

The man shook his head.

Charlie

Not on our wages. Keep dreaming, Aurelian.

He knew they were right, but he couldn’t let go of his fascination.

Day after day, Aurelian walked past the mansion, finding comfort in imagining her restored to glory.
