My Deskmate

My Deskmate

Prologue

12/31/18

“Yo, mom said you can stay the night.”

“Sweet, should I bring snacks?”

I grinned, “Of course, bring a lot.”

Jacobi smiled back, “Gotcha.”

That was code for ‘mom said no, but oh well’. I’d sneak him in later.

I glanced back down at my phone looking for any new messages, there was none.

Jacobi leaned closer being nosy, “Still no text from Jade?”

I frowned, “I don’t get it, what did I do wrong? I didn’t say anything to offend her…”

Jacobi puts his arms on my shoulders looking at me, “Dude, she’s your girlfriend, and she doesn’t want to talk to you, you definitely did something wrong.”

I looked away thinking, she’s been ignoring me since Friday. That’s a whole three days, we never take that long ignoring each other. The longest I’ve ever gone without seeing her since we started dating, was about a day. This is totally different, it feels weird not hearing from her.

My eyes widened, “What if she’s hurt?? Jace, what if she’s in the hospital and isn’t answering me because her phone broke, and she’s upset that I haven’t visited her!”

He sighed, “She’s not in the hospital bro, she’s in one of my classes, she’s fine.”

I smiled quickly, relieved that she wasn’t hurt, but then frowned again, confused.

“But then why is she ignoring me?”

Jacobi shrugged, “Why don’t you go ask her?”

I peeked down the hallway seeing if Jade was walking by, she wasn’t.

I sighed and shut my locker, “Okay, she’s in your class, take me there.”

I followed Jacobi down the halls of our school nervously, I had a really bad feeling.

“Tyler you walk too slow!” Jace complained grasping my hand.

He dragged me to his classroom, while I held onto him awkwardly. I rarely held anyone’s hand, not even Jade’s.

“Here!”

Jace stood next to me, looking around the classroom for Jade with me. She was with a few other girls huddled in the corner whispering.

“Jade!” I yelled angrily.

Her head peeked through the crowd of girls, once she saw me she just stared back.

I rushed over to them, “Why haven’t you been answering me?”

Everyone watched Jade stare at the ground awkwardly, then they glared at me.

“Jade?”

She sighed, “I think we should break up.”

My eyes widened in disbelief, “Wait, what?”

She stood awkwardly and held me cheek sadly, “I’m sorry, you’re a good guy…”

No..no..this can’t be real…

I pressed my hand against hers that was on my face, not wanting her to let me go.

I’m a man, I can’t cry in front of these girls, they’ll think I’m weak. I need to stay strong.

I felt a lump in my throat as a Is poke trying to hold back my tears, “Why?”

She smiled falsely, “I can’t be in a one sided relationship.”

I frowned confused, “What do you mean?? I really like you, this isn’t one sided.”

She glanced away biting her lip, “No Ty, I don’t like you…”

My mouth fell open in surprise, I loosened my grip on her hand and stepped backwards. I knew Jade for only a year, but for most of the time we were a couple. I thought we were happy, she was my world, everyday I wake up, I got so excited to see her again.

After all we have been through, she’s just telling me she doesn’t have feelings for me.

I shook my head bringing myself back to reality, “For real Jade? For real? After a whole four months together, you’re just now telling me you don’t like me? You played with my feelings for that long, then tell me this like it’s no big deal? What the hell Jade?? What’s wrong with you? Seriously!”

One of her friends glared at me and pushed me back, “Shut up idiot, she doesn’t want to hurt you.”

Doesn’t want to hurt me? Too late for that!

I licked my lips angrily, “Fuck you Jetta, **** you too Jade, **** all of you! You’re allassholes, just letting her do that to me. You guys are a real waste of time.”

I grunted heavily shoving tables out of my way.

“Damn, they really did that..c’mon Tyler, let’s skip first,” Jace offered.

I grabbed his arm pulling him away, “Bathroom.”

I let him go turning the corner, parting ways was just so nobody would get suspicious, class president knows I skip, he can’t get mad at Jace too, so we cover it up.

I locked the bathroom stall and leaned against the wall sighing, I slid down to the floor slowly and rested my head on my knees.

Jacobi placed his hand on my shoulder trying to comfort me, but it didn’t really help.

“Hey Jace, could we skip tonight? I’m not really feeling good enough to hang, I just want to sleep,” I yawned.

He tapped my shoulder, “Sure, sleep away princess.”

I jabbed the side of his stomach with my elbow, then relaxed satisfied. My thoughts about Jade and all our memories faded farther away as my eyes became heavier and heavier. Soon, I was sleeping soundly.
