My Deskmate

Prologue

12/31/18

“Yo, mom said you can stay the night.”

“Sweet, should I bring snacks?”

I grinned, “Of course, bring a lot.”

Jacobi smiled back, “Gotcha.”

That was code for ‘mom said no, but oh well’. I’d sneak him in later.

I glanced back down at my phone looking for any new messages, there was none.

Jacobi leaned closer being nosy, “Still no text from Jade?”

I frowned, “I don’t get it, what did I do wrong? I didn’t say anything to offend her…”

Jacobi puts his arms on my shoulders looking at me, “Dude, she’s your girlfriend, and she doesn’t want to talk to you, you definitely did something wrong.”

I looked away thinking, she’s been ignoring me since Friday. That’s a whole three days, we never take that long ignoring each other. The longest I’ve ever gone without seeing her since we started dating, was about a day. This is totally different, it feels weird not hearing from her.

My eyes widened, “What if she’s hurt?? Jace, what if she’s in the hospital and isn’t answering me because her phone broke, and she’s upset that I haven’t visited her!”

He sighed, “She’s not in the hospital bro, she’s in one of my classes, she’s fine.”

I smiled quickly, relieved that she wasn’t hurt, but then frowned again, confused.

“But then why is she ignoring me?”

Jacobi shrugged, “Why don’t you go ask her?”

I peeked down the hallway seeing if Jade was walking by, she wasn’t.

I sighed and shut my locker, “Okay, she’s in your class, take me there.”

I followed Jacobi down the halls of our school nervously, I had a really bad feeling.

“Tyler you walk too slow!” Jace complained grasping my hand.

He dragged me to his classroom, while I held onto him awkwardly. I rarely held anyone’s hand, not even Jade’s.

“Here!”

Jace stood next to me, looking around the classroom for Jade with me. She was with a few other girls huddled in the corner whispering.

“Jade!” I yelled angrily.

Her head peeked through the crowd of girls, once she saw me she just stared back.

I rushed over to them, “Why haven’t you been answering me?”

Everyone watched Jade stare at the ground awkwardly, then they glared at me.

“Jade?”

She sighed, “I think we should break up.”

My eyes widened in disbelief, “Wait, what?”

She stood awkwardly and held me cheek sadly, “I’m sorry, you’re a good guy…”

No..no..this can’t be real…

I pressed my hand against hers that was on my face, not wanting her to let me go.

I’m a man, I can’t cry in front of these girls, they’ll think I’m weak. I need to stay strong.

I felt a lump in my throat as a Is poke trying to hold back my tears, “Why?”

She smiled falsely, “I can’t be in a one sided relationship.”

I frowned confused, “What do you mean?? I really like you, this isn’t one sided.”

She glanced away biting her lip, “No Ty, I don’t like you…”

My mouth fell open in surprise, I loosened my grip on her hand and stepped backwards. I knew Jade for only a year, but for most of the time we were a couple. I thought we were happy, she was my world, everyday I wake up, I got so excited to see her again.

After all we have been through, she’s just telling me she doesn’t have feelings for me.

I shook my head bringing myself back to reality, “For real Jade? For real? After a whole four months together, you’re just now telling me you don’t like me? You played with my feelings for that long, then tell me this like it’s no big deal? What the hell Jade?? What’s wrong with you? Seriously!”

One of her friends glared at me and pushed me back, “Shut up idiot, she doesn’t want to hurt you.”

Doesn’t want to hurt me? Too late for that!

I licked my lips angrily, “Fuck you Jetta, **** you too Jade, **** all of you! You’re allassholes, just letting her do that to me. You guys are a real waste of time.”

I grunted heavily shoving tables out of my way.

“Damn, they really did that..c’mon Tyler, let’s skip first,” Jace offered.

I grabbed his arm pulling him away, “Bathroom.”

I let him go turning the corner, parting ways was just so nobody would get suspicious, class president knows I skip, he can’t get mad at Jace too, so we cover it up.

I locked the bathroom stall and leaned against the wall sighing, I slid down to the floor slowly and rested my head on my knees.

Jacobi placed his hand on my shoulder trying to comfort me, but it didn’t really help.

“Hey Jace, could we skip tonight? I’m not really feeling good enough to hang, I just want to sleep,” I yawned.

He tapped my shoulder, “Sure, sleep away princess.”

I jabbed the side of his stomach with my elbow, then relaxed satisfied. My thoughts about Jade and all our memories faded farther away as my eyes became heavier and heavier. Soon, I was sleeping soundly.

Like and comment!!

The Kid Who Changed Classes

12/9/18

“Tyler it’s time to get up, second period will start soon.”

I groaned, “Five more minutes…”

Jacobi grunted jabbing me back in the side. I glared at him.

“Up, now,” he ordered.

“Fine whatever,” I yawned.

I rolled over and winced in pain, my back was stiff from sleeping on the hard floor. I frowned with irritation, then put my hands in front of me and pushed myself up off of the ground.

I grabbed my bag and walked out of the bathroom, parting ways with Jace.

Ugh, I hate second period…

I shoved my bag back in my locker, if I didn’t bring my books then the teacher wouldn’t make me do any work.

The bell rang and everyone was rushing out of every classroom. I laughed, I wasn’t the only one who didn't like school.

A few people bumped into me as they were running down the halls, I glared at them once they did, then they would awkwardly walk away.

I glanced up at the board in front of my classroom, it said we were changing seats.

I grinned, I could sit in the back again.

I sat down in my assigned seat, waiting for everyone to walk in so we could change where we sat. I tapped my foot on the ground impatiently.

After a few minutes the last bit of my classmates filtered in the class, I leaned forward as the teacher walked up to the front, I could finally have my own seat without a petty girl as my deskmate.

“Well? Change your seats already,” the teacher said.

I slammed my fist down on the table gaining everyone’s attention, then rushed over to the back of the room and claimed my territory. I stared at everyone letting them know, no one was going to bother me, meaning no deskmate.

I swung my legs on top of the desk, and leaned back relaxing. I could finally be alone.

I heard a few voices whispering about me, I tried ignoring them...

“He should show more respect.”

“The teacher doesn’t care. I think Tyler bribes Mr. Strat to give him space and let him relax.”

“Isn’t that illegal?? Good thing Jade broke up with him.”

“Wait actually? Jade broke up with him?? Ha! Serves him right, he’s such a jerk!”

I started to laugh really loud, “Love you guys too.”

I peeked through one eye and saw the group of girls staring at me awkwardly.

I sighed grinning, I loved how I could make the room so tense within seconds.

I jerked backwards from surprise when I heard a heavy bag slam on my desk.

“Hey deskmate.”

I looked up angrily, and met a pair of clear grey eyes. I”d never seen grey eyes before, they seemed so perfect.

“Who are you?” I grunted.

“I’m Jaxon, switched classes today, and you’re lucky enough to be my deskmate.”

I frowned, “What makes you say I’m lucky?”

He leans closer so our faces were almost touching, “You’ll see.”

I gulped awkwardly, his face was so close I felt his calm breaths blow on my cheeks.

I flush red from the heat, “Move back…”

Jaxon grins evilly before stepping back. I ran my hands through my hair trying to collect myself, then looked back up at him.

“I never said you could sit with me.”

Jaxon sat down in the chair and leaned back stretching, “I already sat down bro, I’m not moving.”

I glared at him as he relaxed in the seat that was supposed to be empty.

He sighed, “I can feel you staring at me.”

I turned my head and frowned, “Don’t flatter yourself.”

I peeked back at him, he was smiling again. I groaned, this guy was going to be a pain in my ***.

I crossed my arms, “You better not be annoying.”

Jaxon opened his eyes and stared at me. I was awkwardly looking at the front, trying not to look at him, I could feel him searching me up and down.

“Or else what?”

I stiffened, “You’ll regret it.”

My threat was so weak, I should’ve said something more intimidating. Like, ‘I’ll punch you’, or ‘I’ll jump you’. Just something better than what I said.

I slouched back and closed my eyes trying to fall asleep, that way no one could bother me.

“Sleep well princess.”

I turned out to be the unluckiest person today. My girlfriend broke up with me, Jaxon has another class with me, and I have to go to my dads’ house tonight.

I just want everything to be like how it was before…

I opened my eyes and slapped myself, I didn’t want that, Jade never really liked me, it wasn’t real. If I could go back in time, I would hate it even more, I’d have to go through everything again.

“Don’t hurt yourself Princess.”

I jumped back flustered, how long was he there??

Suddenly my back got warm, insanely fast. I felt bare strong arms wrap around me, holding me tightly. My cheeks stained red as my body shook, I didn’t know what to do.

Jaxon lowered his head so it was resting on my shoulder.

Then I completely froze, I’ve never had any physical touch besides holding hands and getting beat.

“...J-Jaxon…”

“Mm?”

I gulped awkwardly, “What are you doing?”

“Stopping you from hitting yourself again.”

I slowly looked down and realized his hands were holding mine to my sides.

I bit my lip, “I’m not gonna hit me anymore, you can let go.”

He sighed heavily before releasing me. I turned to him and crossed my arms as if he was in the wrong.

“Don’t touch me again,” I ordered.

He tilted his head, then slowly reached out his hand and poked my nose with his finger.

“Cut it out!”

I turned back to where I was going and stomped away frustrated. He was the first person to ever hug me, it felt so weird, I had to get out of it.

I stepped into my last class and held my head low as I walked to my seat.

I sat down and grabbed my hair stressed out. I couldn’t believe that a guy hugged me. You would think that your girlfriend or mom would hug you, but no, Jaxon, of all people, Jaxon.

Bad Boy Jaxon

12/12/18

I hid in my seat and covered my face trying not to be noticed, I’m more than one hundred percent sure that Jaxon wasn’t in this class, yet here he was.

He nodded his head looking around the room and stopped once he spotted me. He grinned and walked up to me, Jade was staring at him as he approached me.

No, no, no..Just go away already!

He slammed his hands on my desk on both sides of me and stared at me seriously.

“Are you hiding from me?” he whispered.

I frowned, “Why are you here Jaxon?”

My voice was muffled from me lying on my desk, so Jaxon leaned closer.

“I’ll always find you Princess.”

I clenched my fists and stood angrily. I grabbed his shirt and pulled him close threatening him.

“Leave me alone you disgusting pig. Stop following me, it’s creepy. I won’t hesitate to hurt you Jaxon, so stop.”

I glared into his eyes, they seemed innocent, but I knew he had a motive for picking on me.

I let him go and sat back down looking out the window, trying to avoid eye contact with anyone.

I didn't have to look to know that others were watching me closely, or that Jaxon was sulking.

I pulled out my phone and was about to text Jace, but then Jaxon loudly sat down in the chair next to me.

I turned to him and looked at him like he was crazy, he was really asking for it now.

He kept his head low as he spoke, “You should know, I don’t give up easily. Especially if it’s something I really want.”

I flinched at how intimidating he sounded like he wanted to kill me or something.

I turned to him fully staring back, “What do you want?”

He shifted so his eyes locked with mine, his serious voice matching his clear grey eyes.

His dark hair hung over his eyes as he looked at me.

“You.”

I don’t know if I was ignoring what he said, or if I was just too caught up in a staring contest, but I never said anything back and held my gaze.

After a few minutes the teacher came in and noticed Jaxon wasn’t her student right away.

“Young man, girls aren’t into guys who skip classes. Go back to where you're supposed to be.”

He broke the gaze by turning to her smiling, “I doubt that Ms. Tilly. I know a lot of girls into bad boys.”

In the corner of my eye I saw Jade turn away from us and hide her face. Did she think he was talking about her? Was he?

I glanced at Ms. Tilly and leaned closer to Jaxon, “How do you know her name?”

He whispered back, “It’s on the board.”

Oh, I’m stupid.

I laughed a little as Ms. Tilly practically pulled him out of the class by his ear. I smiled watching him leave. He looked back at me before he walked out the class and smiled back.

I flushed red again, it became a little harder to breathe too.

What’s going on with me? Why am I so hot suddenly?

I looked down at my phone and remembered I was texting Jacobi. I quickly typed, we needed to meet ASAP, I told him to wait for me at the stairs after class.

“What did you want to tell me bro?”

I swung my arms around and held my hands behind my back.

I cleared my throat, “This guy that’s in two of my classes keeps following me around and won't leave me alone. He even came looking for me when I was in Ms. Tilly’s. He hugged me Jace, and said he wanted me.”

I rubbed my arm awkwardly finally realizing how creepy that was.

Some random dude following me around and says he wants me, it can’t get any worse than that. Oh shit, what if he’s a pervert??

I widened my eyes and looked around to see if he was near, he wasn’t.

“Sounds like someone has an admirer,” Jacobi teased.

I pouted, “Not funny, I’m serious. Isn’t this kinda creepy?”

He changed the topic, “How did Jade react in Ms. Tilly’s?”

I looked away, “I don’t know..She was watching us, and then he said something and she looked away hiding her face..you think she likes him?”

He nudged my arm, “Who’s that guy by your locker?”

I looked in his direction and saw my stalker leaning against my locker.

I glared, “It’s him, Jaxon.”

I clenched my fists and walked up to him, he looked at me and tilted his head.

“What’s wrong-”

“What are you doing here stalker??” I yell.

“I already told you Princess,” he smiles.

My anger faded away, I didn’t know why, but it did.

I looked him in the eyes, “Why are you so interested in me? You don’t know anything about me.”

“Is that bad?” He said standing straight.

I nodded my head, “Now move, I need to get my bag.”

He scooted to the side and noticed Jace.

“Who’s this guy?”

“I’m Jacobi,” he moved his bangs out of his face.

“You two friends?”

“Bestfriends.”

I glance back at them as I grab my bag, Jaxon seemed stiff, which isn’t how he normally acts.

“You good?” I ask Jaxon.

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

I look down awkwardly and start to walk out of the school, with both Jace and Jaxon following me.

Jace whispers, “If you are so disgusted with him, why did you ask if he’s okay?”

I looked up, stunned. Why did I ask him? He’s a weird kid that has an obsession with me. He creeps me out, why would I ask him anything??

I shrugged and looked back at Jaxon, “Are you planning on following me all night?”

“No Tyler, I’m not a stalker, I’m going to my car,” he pointed in front of us, at the school gates.

“Oh.”

I’m so awkward! He must think I’m too full of myself! God what if he judges me now?

I shook my head confused.

Wait, why do I care?? He’s just another normal guy, why is he so special??

“That’s your ride? Are you rich or something??” Jace asks amazed.

A man walks out of an expensive black car and opens the backseat door gesturing for Jaxon to get in.

“I wouldn’t say rich, If we had a few more mansions then yeah.”

I opened my mouth wide, “How many do you have??”

“Three.”

Jaxon walks over to the car, but stops right before getting in. He turns back to me smiling.

“See you Princess,” He calls out before driving away.

My eyes widen in embarrassment and I turn away from everyone flustered.

“Princess? I think he likes you, not Jade,” Jacobi teases.

I pull my hood over my head trying to hide, “Shut up Jace.”

He laughs, “Maybe he’s actually serious about ‘wanting you’, how ya feel about that?”

I turned the corner, “He’s weird Jace, can we stop talking about him now?”

He sighed, “I guess.”
