When Life Gives You Lemons
Sharlynn sat in her new favorite spot in her bedroom. Her cheeks were stained pink by a blush. She wasn't totally embarrassed with what she would be taking about, it was more that she felt shy.
She fanned herself to see if that would help to get the blish to go away, but when that didn't work she shrugged her shoulders then reached out and started her camera recording.
Sharlynn
Welcome back to another episode of diary of a dweeb.
Sharlynn smiled into the camera to try to cover up her nervousness.
Sharlynn
Last time we left off I thought I had seen the last of Jackson Roberts, but Mr. Singer had other plans for me.
Sharlynn
When the bell rang for us to head to our first period classes we all stood up to head toward the door. Before I could even take one step towards the door I heard Mr. Singer call me.
*though Sharlynn is telling the story we will see it as though it were happening*
Mr. Singer
Sharlynn, can you come here please.
Once Sharlynn stood next to the desk Mr. Singer spoke again.
Mr. Singer
I'd like for you to show Mr. Roberts to his next class.
Sharlynn looked at him with wide eyes.
Sharlynn
Y...yes Mr. Singer.
Mr. Singer
I noticed when I looked over his schedule that the two of you have quite a few classes together. Maybe you could show him around to his classes.
Sharlynn just stared at Mr. Singer for a moment. She was shocked, almost.
Mr. Singer smiled at her in gratitude.
Mr. Singer
Thank you, Sharlynn. I knew I could count on you.
Mr. Singer
Mr. Roberts, could you come here for a moment?
Jackson came and stood next to Sharlynn.
Mr. Singer
I have asked Sharlynn to show you to your next class since you are in the same period. I also asked her to show you to some of your other classes since you have them together too.
Mr. Singer
You are welcome. I hope you have a good first day. Don't be afraid to come see me for anything you might need.
Jackson
Thanks again, Mr. Singer.
Sharlynn and Jackson stood looking at each other for a moment.
Sharlynn hiked her backpack up on her shoulders then turned and started heading out of the classroom. She walked nearly with her head down, not even looking back.
Jackson
Uh, you mind holding up? Remember I don't know where I am going.
Sharlynn stopped in her tracks then spun around on her heel to see where Jackson was. As she spun around she smacked right into him. She flushed a bright pink.
Sharlynn
I...I thought you were farther behind.
Jackson
Nah. I just wanted to see what you'd do.
Jackson looked down at her.
Jackson
You were so eager to please Mr. Singer. I just wanted to see if you were that obedient with everyone.
Sharlynn
Are you comparing me to a dog?
Jackson proceeded to pat Sharlynn on the head. She looked at him, speechless. Without saying a word she turned around and continued heading toward their next class.
*We now get back to Sharlynn speaking into her phone*
Sharlynn
I had to turn away... In that moment I might have bit him if he dared to compare me to a dog again.
Sharlynn
I don't know why he would do something like that. I hadn't done anything to deserve it. He didn't know me at all, where did he have room to judge me? Did I exude an aura of meekness? Did that make me an easy target?
Sharlynn
I'm not going to totally change who I am because of some jerk, but maybe I need to take a look at myself to see if there are areas where I can become stronger.
Sharlynn
Well, enough doom and gloom for one day. Life gave me lemons today, so I shoukd make some lemonade. Let's just hope I don't squirt myself in the eye.
Sharlynn reached out and pressed the button to stop recording. When she looked at her alarm clock she was surprised at how late it was.
For someone who wasn't usually a talker, she hadn't had a problem babbling on this time.
