Chapter-3

We enter my cabin and I start readying the copy of the case report.

“So how are you doing these days? I always see you in the hospital these days.”, said detective Zeke.

“I’m doing well except of course for working extra hours. Not that I’m complaining, mind you. But it would be nice to see the outside world once in a while and not just crash once I reach home.”, I said.

“So, how are you? I heard about the date. So how did it go? Was that a yeah or a nah?”, I ask teasingly.

“Oh, you know how it is with me.”, said the detective.

“So that was a failure.”, I said.

“Well... Not... Exactly. It’s just I feel it’s not the right time you know.”, said Zeke.

“Well there’s no right time when you’re married to your work.", I said jokingly.

“Yeah, kinda makes me feel like I’m cheating when I go on dates.", he said jokingly.

The detective and I are good friends. And that’s saying a lot because I’m someone who knows quite a lot of people but doesn’t have a lot of friends. My shyness and my cold face combined with trust issues make it difficult for me to make any friends.

We met when I first joined the hospital just fresh out of graduation. And it’s quite weird we became friends considering my past trauma. Well, that’s a story for another day. Anyways we both got along like two peas in a pod after our initial meeting. And I am happy that I met him.

“So, what’s the deal with this case? Like I get the high-profile thing considering who we are talking about but is the criminal behind bars or should we look out for a possible convict?”, I asked.

“Well the criminal is arrested but we suspect there might be a group. This was a bizarre case where an obsessive fan went so far as to stab him and that’s so crazy. I don’t know how he is going to heal from the trauma.", he replied.

“Oh Lord, that’s... Like I don’t understand why someone would think they have a right over another person. I mean I understand why medically, you know psychiatry and stuff but that’s still crazy and... messed up. I haven’t heard any crazy fan stories which are as messed up as this one. Going that far as to stab someone. That’s inhumane. And where was the security?”, I question feeling upset after getting to know the gist of the case.

“Yes yes, I understand what you are trying to say but remember, you and I know how crazy the world we live in is.”, he said in a serious tone.

I nod knowing quite how crazy and dangerous the world is based on my own personal experience.

“Besides, should you be telling that as a doctor?”, he then says teasingly.

“Just you remember doctors are humans too. And as humans. We do have our flaws and judgement.”, I said in a bantering tone.

“But honestly, I do hope he heals from this. I have seen how people suffer because of traumatic experiences. And Don’t worry I’ll talk to his manager about this. He is in better hand, we’ll do our best.”, I reassure him.

Being in this profession, we both have experienced meeting quite a lot of people with mental trauma and how bad it has affected them and how they struggle with it. Some don’t ask for help because of the stigma, some because of other reasons, but I have always vowed that if I ever come across someone who is struggling and needs help, I would try my best to help them.

And also, the detective quite had a similar incident although not as severe as this, but he did have his fair share of obsessive ex-girlfriends. There was a time when one of them threatened him with his life to get back together and in hindsight, she shouldn’t have done that considering his profession and you can guess how that ended.

“Wait did you just say ‘A group’?”, I suddenly remember and ask him the question.

“Yes, we suspect there’s a group so it’s safe to look out before we get any indication which specifies otherwise.”, replied detective Zeke.

“Alright, I understand your concern. We will look out for any suspicious person. Here’s a copy of the patient history and the details required. I’ll get the necessary report after I get the authorization from the board’s first thing tomorrow.”, I say.

We then finish doing the necessary procedure and I send the detective off. After this, I then take a break and have my dinner. Then I go on rounds to check up on the patients' health status. After which I clock out from my work.
