We stabilize the patient according to the protocol. And then I quickly assess the patient's condition and find that there’s a lot of blood loss due to stab injury and it looked like the injury had perforated the intestine.

I check for further injury or signs and at the same time, I quickly make a decision and tell them to take the patient to the CT room so that we can rule out any internal injuries which we can’t diagnose through a physical check-up and also to confirm our initial diagnosis.

“Please inform the trauma surgeon.”, I said.

When one of the staff mentions-

“The pupils are abnormally dilated.”

I then check the pupils and find that there indeed is a foul play and looking up at other signs, it did confirm my suspicions, I said-

“It looks like there is suspicion of overdose or possibly a poison when matched with other symptoms. Please draw some blood and immediately send it for lab investigation.”

“Quick, let’s move.”, I shout the orders.

We then proceed to shift the patient for further treatment and stabilization.

After initial treatment, we shift the patient to the operating room for emergency surgery. The chief along with Dr.Noah comes inside the operating theatre [OT].

I was quite surprised to see the chief handling this case personally, even when it wasn’t his assigned patient. Usually, all staff are assigned patients. And the chief usually doesn’t involve in other staff's cases unless it’s a complicated case which the fellow doctors request for his professional advice or if it's a high-profile case which is personally advised by the hospital board.

In this case, even though it is complicated medically but it is something which all the ER doctors are trained in and it is considered as a case that doesn’t require the chief involvement and also seeing as it isn’t his assigned case. So, I was quite surprised by his appearance.

Then Dr.Noah said, “It is a high-profile case. The hospital board requested the chief to personally make sure things are ok.”

“Oh, alright. Who might this be? ", I questioned.

“You are joking right?”, said Dr.Noah.

I looked confused. Looking at my expression, Dr.Noah said, “Yeah I can see why you couldn’t recognize. He is Ace. The leader of boy group, V13ES. The group is quite popular”. I nod in response. Being somewhat familiar with the group’s songs myself and news about them, I understood Dr.Noah’s reaction.

‘Ah, so that’s why he looked familiar. No wonder the staffs were shocked', I thought.

Soon the surgery was completed and we move him to a VIP ward for his future stay and treatment.

Later I get a message to visit the chief.

*knock knock*

“Come in Dr.Knight. We were waiting for you.”, said the chief.

‘We?’, I was confused.

Just then I noticed Dr.Noah, the detective, and two other people in the chief’s office. I recognize one of them as Jack, who is also an Idol. But I didn’t know who the other person was.

I take a seat and the detective starts talking,

“As you guys are well aware by now of his identity. And I’m sure you guys know it’s a criminal case as well. So, I have some questions to be asked for the doctor-in-charge. For legal procedure. Just basic questions, so, I would like the doctor to give a statement now and visit the station tomorrow along with the case report. And also, please do keep an eye on any suspicious person or people and do inform us on this.”

“Yes, sure detective. We would be happy to help.”, said the chief.

Then the person with Jack starts talking-

“I’m Samuel, the manager of the Idols. And I hope you guys know Jack.”, he said pointing towards Jack.

We all nod in response. Jack is also an idol of course. He is the main vocalist of the boy group, V13ES.

“Since you know the patient is an idol, I hope you understand our request. We would like complete confidentiality of the situation here. No leak of news about his admission or the extent of his injuries. We have also talked to the hospital board about this and of course, they have agreed. Apart from that, we would also like you to sign the confidentiality agreement.”

“Please don’t worry about paparazzi or any threat. The good detective here has agreed to dispatch extra security. So, that is covered. And as the detective said please be extra vigilant and please do inform us if you notice anything suspicious.”

“We are sorry for the trouble. And please do take care of Mr.Ace Kegel. Thank you!”, said Samuel.

“Yeah, we are sorry for the trouble. Please do take care of Ace.”, said Jack.

“No, it’s no trouble. It’s our duty to help.”, said the chief assuring them.

“Yes, and it’s Dr.Senara Knight who is in charge of the patient. You can ask Dr. Senara or Dr.Noah for any information regarding the patients' health details.”, said the chief.

“Please don’t worry, he is in capable hands and I trust their expertise. No one apart from us three is involved in the treatment procedure and we assure you we will do our best.”, said the chief to Samuel and Jack.

“Detective, Dr. Senara would be happy to help with your statement and any follow-up required.”

“Ok, if you gentlemen have any more queries, please do feel comfortable to ask.", said the chief.

“No, nothing. Thank you for your time.", said Samuel to the chief, preparing to leave.

“Same, if something comes up. I'll be sure to contact you, sir.”, said the detective

“Alright.", said the chief.

After which the chief sends them off with a brief handshake and asks the detective to wait outside while he talks with us.

“Please Dr.Senara, give the statement and do the necessary. I’ll leave that to you.”. I nod in response.

“And Dr.Noah please submit the surgery history files to the hospital board. Please do accompany me for the case discussion regarding the condition of the patient with the hospital board. I’ll leave you in charge to conduct a meeting to inform the staff of the confidentiality issue now Dr.Noah. After which you can clock out.”, said the chief to Dr.Noah.

“Yes, chief.”, said Dr.Noah.

“Please see to it that this is all done and please I would like if you and you as well, Dr.Senara, kindly update me on the patient's condition regularly.", said the chief.

Both Dr. Noah and I nod indicating yes and after which we leave to do our respective work.

“Detective, please follow me to my cabin. I’ll provide you a copy of the report for now. I shall submit the lab copies tomorrow after we receive them.”, I said to the detective.

“Sure, please guide the way.”, said the detective.

I guide the detective to my cabin to record the statement and the findings. _____________________________________________

Other details- introvert, assertive, friendly to all but very selective about letting people inside his inner circle.
