Episode 4

A week had passed since Victoria arrived at Dona Maria's cozy lodging, and little by little, she began to feel more organized in her new room. The walls were decorated with drawings and small souvenirs that Dona Maria had placed to make her feel more at home. The woman had been kind and understanding, offering her not only a refuge, but also advice on how to cope with the pregnancy. She prepared comforting teas and easy-to-digest meals for her, which helped Victoria keep her stomach calm, despite the nausea that still tormented her in the mornings.

However, despite the gestures of affection and support from Dona Maria and the calls from Azucena, Victoria couldn't help but cry every time she was alone. In those moments of solitude, she lamented all the mistakes she had made: the trust she had placed in Martin, the way she had disappointed her parents, and the way they had treated her. Remembering her father's hurtful words and how he had kicked her out of his life as if she were worthless tore her apart inside. Tears flowed silently, and she often stayed awake late into the night, her heart heavy with sadness. She wondered what she would do, how she would get ahead, and above all what future she would offer that baby on the way.

One night, as tears streamed down her cheeks, a sweet and comforting voice seemed to whisper in her ear. It was a voice that urged her not to give up, to remember that she was strong and that the light would shine again for her. Without thinking, she caressed her belly and a shy smile formed on her face. That simple action gave her a glimmer of hope in the midst of her torment.

The next morning, Victoria woke up with renewed spirits. Although the nausea hit her, she managed to vomit a little before brushing her teeth. She showered, got ready, and prepared for the new day. When she left her room, she found Dona Maria in the kitchen, who smiled warmly at her.

"Good morning, Victoria. How are you feeling today?" the woman asked, in a maternal tone.

"Good, I think I'm analyzing everything little by little," Victoria replied, feeling that the conversation brought her relief.

Dona Maria watched her attentively, nodding with understanding.

"That's important. Tomorrow I'll take you to the clinic in the other neighborhood. They have good doctors who can check that your pregnancy is going well," Dona Maria announced, with a reassuring smile.

Victoria nodded, feeling grateful for her aunt's generosity.

"Thank you, Dona Maria. That makes me feel calmer," she replied, relieved.

Throughout the day, they both worked together at the boarding house, sharing moments of laughter and complicity. Victoria felt useful helping in the kitchen and organizing the rooms, which allowed her to distract herself from her dark thoughts. Dona Maria's kindness made her heart feel a little lighter.

Later, while they were in the living room, the boarding house phone rang. Dona Maria answered and, after a few moments of conversation, handed the phone to Victoria.

"It's Azucena, she wants to say hello," she said with a smile.

Victoria took the phone nervously, but upon hearing the woman's familiar voice, a feeling of warmth enveloped her.

"Hello, Victoria! I just wanted to know how you are and send you some encouragement," Azucena said, her tone full of warmth.

"Hello, Azucena. I'm fine, adapting to everything," Victoria replied, feeling that the connection with the woman gave her a boost of positive energy.

"Remember, dear, there is always light after the storm. And you are stronger than you think," Azucena encouraged her. "How is Maria treating you?"

"Very well, she takes care of me and lets me work with her, she pampers me and lets me watch the soap opera with her."

With each word of encouragement, Victoria felt hope begin to blossom inside her. The conversation continued, full of laughter and words of encouragement, and when they finally hung up, Victoria felt a little lighter.

As the day progressed, the laughter and teamwork with Dona Maria reminded her that, although her life had taken an unexpected turn, there were good people who supported her. And so, as the sun set in the capital, Victoria felt one step closer to finding her way in the midst of uncertainty.

At night, the three of them sat down to dinner in the small dining room: Victoria, Dona Maria, and Rosana, the boarding house receptionist. They ate well and then enjoyed a delicious dessert that Victoria prepared.

"What a delicious dessert!" exclaimed Rosana.

"Delicious!" added Dona Maria.

"I'm glad you liked it, my mother taught me how to make it," said Victoria, and immediately her eyes welled up.

"Don't cry, my child, you'll see that one day your father will reconsider and you can go back to your family," Dona Maria hugged her.

"What if he never forgives me?" asked Victoria, her voice broken by melancholy.

"Then he will prove that he doesn't deserve you, if you can't go back with them, you have me and Azucena," assured Dona Maria, kissing her forehead.

"Me too," added Rosana.

After leaving the kitchen in order, Dona Maria invited Victoria to watch the soap opera of the night and they stayed there until ten at night, then everyone went to their room.

Victoria washed up, changed into comfortable clothes, and that night for the first time since she arrived in the capital she didn't cry before falling asleep.
