The black car pulled up to the curb like a phantom.
Asher felt the chill slide down his spine before he even turned his head.
Zayden stood by the open car door, hands in his pockets, eyes unreadable. Under the flickering streetlamp, he looked almost unreal—beautiful and cold as a winter storm.
Maxwell stepped in front of his instinctively, but Asher touched his arm.

*eyes pleaded.*
If Zayden saw anyone interfering, it would only get worse.
Wordlessly, he walked toward the car.
Zayden said nothing as he (Asher) slid into the leather seat. He didn’t say a word during the entire drive back to the mansion, either.
Silence filled the space between them, heavy and electric.
When they reached the estate, Zayden got out first. Asher followed, heart hammering harder with every step toward the front door.
The second it closed behind them, the mask dropped.
Zayden turned on his, eyes burning with a rage so cold it stole the air from the room.
