The wedding photos still hung on the wall.
Golden frames. White dress. Forced smiles.
To anyone else, it looked perfect. But behind closed doors, the fairy tale had ended before it even began.
Asher sat at the edge of the bed, chain in his leg the cold sheets untouched to his side
His fingers trembled around the teacup he had told her to make—twice, because the first one wasn’t "sweet enough to cover his lies.
He hadn’t said a word back. Not anymore.
Zayden wasn’t the man he remembered from the day they meet first time—the one with the quiet laugh and storm-colored eyes.
The man he’d married wore a different face. One shaped by blame, betrayal, and a past he refused to let die.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
You always look so innocent,
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
*said from the doorway, voice like ice.*
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
That’s your trick, isn’t it?
He didn’t look up. There was no point.
Every word he spoke now was laced with venom. Every glance, a test. Every kindness, a weapon.
He believed he took something from him. The boy he once loved. The version of himself he could never get back
And Asher? he was just the ghost he chose to haunt in return.
Asher fingers tightened around the teacup, from fear, he feels something—anything—other than the numb ache growing in her chest
Zayden stepped into the room, his presence heavy, suffocating. The polished shoes he wore echoed softly on the hardwood floor as he came closer.
He didn’t sit beside him. He didn’t touch him. He only stared, as if waiting for him to crack open and confess to a crime he didn’t commit.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
I wonder…
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
*Said folding his arms*
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
Do you even feel guilty?”
He finally met His gaze—slowly, cautiously. his voice was barely above a whisper.
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
About what?
He laughed. Cold. Sharp. It cut through the air like broken glass.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
Don’t play dumb, Asher. You knew exactly what you were doing when you destroyed him.
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
Victor left because he wanted to, I didn’t—”
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
* quietly*
The cup slipped from his fingers, crashing to the floor. Shards scattered at his feet, but he didn’t flinch.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
You whispered things in his ear. Poisoned his against me.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
You smiled in my face while ripping him away.
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
That’s not true
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
*Voice shaking*
ASHER ROOKWOOD/MC
You never even asked me what happened.
He moved closer, until there was barely a breath between them
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
I didn’t need to
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
I know each and every trick of yours
Asher blinked, but no tears came. She had cried them all months ago, when she realized this marriage was a cage—and he held the key, twisted by grief, driven by revenge.
He turned his back to her, walking toward the door.
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
I don't need your tears
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
I just want you to remember—every day you wake up in this house,
ZAYDEN ROOKWOOD/ML
Every time you wear my name—you’re paying for what you took from me.
As he left, the door clicked shut behind him. Not a slam. Not a scream. Just a quiet lock.
And in that silence, Asher breathed in the pain like smoke, and swore she would find a way out—even if she had to burn everything down to do it.
