05. Picking Up A Child

Selene Maeve pov.

When the night come, I sneak out from the orphanage to my mansion.

Yes, the big and beautiful mansion from before is one of my properties. As an undercover doctor and merchant, I earn quite a huge amount of money. I invent many kinds of things and sell them to the people. You can say that I'm currently one of the richest person in this kingdom. Even the Leonardo orphanage is actually one of my properties.

On my way to the mansion. I see a boy being bullied. Erm....maybe the word 'tortured' is more suitable for this scene. That boy was chained and he was being beaten by a lot of people.

Haah.....what a bunch of wicked people. That boy seems like he is only three or four years old. How can those people treat a kid like that.

Seeing the scene, I instinctively run towards him and protect him by hugging him. Of course because of that I also got beaten up by several people.

With a lot of effort, I finally succeed in getting that boy out from the crowds and drag him to my mansion. My mansion is widely known as one of the richest person's mansion, so those people won't dare to chase us here.

"Are you okay?" I asked that little boy after we got in to the mansion.

The boy took some step backwards before timidly nod his head. What? Am I that scary?

"A-are you...okay?" Asked that boy with a soft voice. He reminded me of Stephan.

"Un, I am okay," I lied to him. Luckily, my face is unwonded and I wear a long sleeved black dress. It's impossible for him to see the wounds and bloods beneath it.

I try to approach him, but he try to avoid me. It feels like playing a game of tag. After running around for some time, I finally manage to catch his hand.

Knowing that he can't avoid me anymore, his eyes revealed a scared and worried look.

"What were you thinking?" I said that as I lightly flick his forehead.

The boy was dumbfounded by my action.

"I'm only trying to treat your wounds. Be good, okay?" I said that as I open my bag and start to treat his wounds.

When I was treating him, I realized that he has a pretty severe skin disease. It will take at least two days for me to cure him completely. He must have suffered a lot because of this disease.

But....this boy's face is really handsome. Pitch black hair. Red eyes. Pale skin. Wait....what? Black hair and red eyes? This description seems pretty familiar.....

Crap....it's the small version of Aeron.....

Eugene pov.

I am a monster. That is what people told me all the time. I don't have any family, home, friend, or even a name.

I was born with a poor health and an incurable skin disease. Because of that, people loathed me and always keep me away from them. No one realized that I possessed a huge amount of power and no one taught me how to control that power. So, I ended up using it recklessly and caused so many troubles.

The first time I used my power, I killed three people who tried to abduct me and another boy at my age. I thought that that boy would thanked me for saving his life, but all I received was just a disgusted and terrified look from him.

At that time, I couldn't understand why did he look at me like I'm some kind of monsters.

The second time I used my power, I killed at least 10 people who tried to avenge the abductors that I killed before. Again, people gave me the same look as that boy.

As I keep on using my power, so many people die in my hand. And, before I knew it, I became the object of fear in the town.

Today, all the people in the town were trying to kill me. They said that if they don't kill me first, I will kill them sooner or later. They poisoned me, chained me up, and beat me.

I can't understand them....What have I done wrong? Why do they did this to me? Maybe it will be better to just kill all of them.... But, this poison made my body feels so weak.....

On the verge of death, I've prepared myself to die. But suddenly, a girl run and protect me from all those beating.

That girl has a long wavy blonde hair and a pair of mesmerizing blue eyes. Her skin is pale white and her face is very beautiful. Without any hesitation, she hug me, the one who is known as a monster and shield me from those people who try to kill me.

At that moment, I suddenly feel what people called a déjà-vu. I feel like I've seen that girl a very long time ago. Her look, her touch, her voice, everything from her is so familiar to me. Her presence make me feel healed and restore my energy. I can't even feel the effect of the poison anymore. My stomach feels like there are butterflies in it and my heart start to flutter. She gave off a warm feeling to my cold heart. I feel like I've been waiting for her in my whole life. What's with this feeling? Maybe I have met her in my previous life?

Seeing those people beat her up too, I feel amazingly irritated. Even much more than when they tried to kill me. I feel like I really want to kill all of those people in the most painful way ever.

But, before I could do anything, she drag me to a mansion and lock the door. She asked me if I am feeling okay. That should be my question!!

I am a guy and she is a girl. Normally it should be me who asked her this question. I really hope that she isn't hurted.....

I gather my energy to asked her if she is okay. My voice is very small and stuttering. This is bad....It seems that I can't control my power.....

Luckily the girl said that she is okay.

I try to keep my distance from her. I'm afraid that I might accidentally hurt her with my uncontrollable power. If I did that,  I won't be able to forgive myself.

What I didn't expect is, that girl keep trying to approach me despite my effort to avoid her. When she finally succeed to catch my hand, I can only pray that I wouldn't accidentally hurt her.

Seeing my frightened face, that girl lightly flick my forehead and ask "What were you thinking?".

"I'm only trying to treat your wounds. Be good, okay?" Said her with a smile.

Actually, it's not unusual for me to get wounded like this, but no one ever said those kind of words to me.

When she try to check my condition, she look shocked to see the face behind my long bangs. She must be disgusted to see my skin disease. I already prepared myself to be chased out at that time, but in the end she still treated all my wounds.

"What is your name?" Asked her.

I shake my head at her question. I don't have any name.

"Why were those people tried to kill you?" She asked me again.

So, she didn't know about me. That's why she treat me kindly like this. Once she know that I'm actually a monster, she will definitely treat me like those people too. Thinking about this make my heart feels really hurts. That's why I choose to just look down without responding to her question.

"Why did you try to avoid me before? Are you scared of me? Or do you hate me?" She seems to know that I don't want to answer her previous question, so she continued to ask another question.

I quickly shake my head at her question. I definitely don't hate her.  I was just afraid that I would hurt her.

That girl chuckled when she saw me shaking my head. Once again I realized how beautiful this girl is.

"Do you have any family? Where do you live?" She asked me again.

I weakly shake my head to answer it.

"Do you have any place to go?" Asked her again.

Again, I shake my head to answer her question.

"Then.....do you want to stay here?" Asked that girl.

I widened my eyes in surprise to hear her words.

".....I....can....stay....here.....?" I asked her with my stupefied face.

I had been in an orphanage before, but, the kids were scared of me. So do the adults there. They try every mean to kick me out from there.

"Of course. Here, this is the mansion's key. You can use any room that you like. Just think of it as your own house," Said her while gently patting my head.

"Ah....right, I forget to tell you, my name is Selene. Selene Maeve." Said that girl again.

Selene.....Maeve..... What a beautiful name....

"I'm eight years old this year, so you can just call me big sister," continued that girl.

Eight years old...? Big sister...?

I was stunned for some seconds before I realized that right now I'm in the shape of a four years old boy. I changed it like this to preserve my energy before.....

Now that Selene think that I'm a real four years old kid, I don't have the courage to tell her the truth.....

Forget it, I'll just pretend to be a four years old kid from now on.

"Hm....Since you don't have any name, how about I give you one?" Asked her with a smile.

She will give me a name...? I will have a name from now on?

Selene Maeve pov.

In the game, Aeron was a dangerous, cold blooded, and unapproachable person. But, I didn't expect him to be like this when he was a kid. This Aeron is very timid, cute, and innocent. I didn't want to get involved with him, but it will feels really terible if I have to leave this cute and innocent little boy to suffer.

Well, since now Aeron hadn't had any name, I will give him one. But, I won't give him the same name as the one he had from the game. 'Aeron' means carnage and slaughter. It's horrible to give someone this cute and innocent that kind of name.

"How about.....Eugene? Is it okay?" I asked him.

Eugene. It mean well-born and noble.

"Eugene....mn....I like it," Said Eugene while nodding with a big smile.

This is my first time to see him smiling happily like this. I'm glad that he act more like a kid now. He shouldn't be so sad and gloomy at his age.

After giving him a new name, I change my dirty clothes and cover up all my wounds. I need to go back to the orphanage first.

"Eugene, I will go to the orphanage first, okay?" I said to Eugene.

"....You are.....not going....to stay here...?" Asked him with his sad face.

Oh my.....he look just like a puppy right now. So freaking cute.

"I will go there to tell them that I will stay here for the time being," I answered him.

I will need to take care of Eugene. His wounds, his skin disease, his meals, his education, and his weak body. I need to take care of all of it.

"Really?" Asked him with a sparkling eyes.

I nod my head to his question.

"Be good and stay here, okay?" I pat his head as I said that.

Hearing my words, he nod his head with a big smile on his face.

"Bye-bye," I wave my hand at him and go to the orphanage.

At the orphanage, I told Lady Georgia that the doctor who saved the prince's life needed my help. So, I won't live in the orphanage for some periods of time.

After Lady Georgia gave me the permission, she also gave me a letter from Eline. Eline said that we will have a meet up four days from now. I thanked Lady Georgia for the letter and go to the market to buy some clothes and food ingredients for Eugene.

The moment I opened the door, Eugene were already waiting for me at the mansion's entrance.

"I'm back," I said to him. It feels nice to have someone who wait for you to come home.

"You haven't had any breakfast, haven't you? I will make some," said me while patting his head.

"I will help!" Said Eugene immediately.

"Okay, then," This boy is so cute~.

Since we made our breakfast together at that time, Eugene start to open up a lot to me. I taught him about many things and brought him to a lot of places. I want to help him recover from his bad past. That's why I always shower him with attention and make sure that he didn't feel lonely.

His weak body also become much better already. It's too much better actually. I know that he is not a normal human, but he is now immuned to disease & poison and his wound can heal in seconds. Maybe it's because his mental health is good now, so that his body also get improved?

Well, it doesn't really matter, the problem now is.....

Eugene is extremely attached to me now. He can't bear me to leave him even for just a moment. He will also feel extremely jealous of me interacting with another person.

Haah.....I wonder what I did wrong......How can I meet up with Eline, Giselle, and Stephan like this?
