02. Saving The Prince

Giselle Ailith pov.

After I regained my consciousness, the first person that I saw was Selene.

"Selene...?" I tried to call her name.

"Giselle? Are you okay? Do you feel any discomfort anywhere?" Asked Selene with her rare worried face.

I weakly shook my head to answer her question. She must be the one who treated all my injuries.

Well, eventhough Selene always seems like a careless airhead, she is actually a dependable peerless genius. She is proficient in everything that doesn't require physical strength.

"Thanks for saving me," I sincerely thanked Selene.

"Don't mention it," said Selene with her smile.

But....how did Selene know about my condition?

If I remember correctly, my father asked the guards to bring some doctors for me. There's no way that they will bring an eight years old kid like Selene to me.

When I want to ask Selene about it, I suddenly realize a bigger problem in my house.

"Selene, what happened to everyone?!" I was terrified by the fact that every single person in my house are unconscious.

"Ahh....I used halothane on them because they tried to stop me from treating you," answered Selene with an awkward smile.

"Haah..... When will they wake up?" I asked her with a helpless expression.

I thought that they were attacked by assassins or something like that.

"It won't be long I think," answered Selene.

I nod my head as my response to Selene's answer.

"Then, since you are okay already, I will go back to the orphanage now. Take care, okay?" Said Selene with her smile.

"Okay, okay. Don't worry about me," Eventhough my body is only eight years old, my mind is already an adult, okay? I can take a good care of myself.

Right after Selene went back to the orphanage, my father and my mother start to regain their consciousness.

"Giselle! Are you okay?!!" The first thing that my father and my mother thought when they opened their eyes were my condition.

"Don't worry Father, Mother, I am okay," I give a sincere smile to them.

"Your wound, how is it? Does it still hurts?" Ask my father again.

"It's been treated already, Father, don't worry," my father is really such a worrywart.

"That's a relief then....I'm very worried when I heard that Doctor Greyham will need at least two hours to get here," said my father and my mother with a relieved smile on their face.

"But....how can all of us suddenly lose our consciousness? I'm sure that no one knocked me out...." Asked my father with his confused look.

"If I remember correctly, someone sprayed something on my face, then I immediately lose my consciousness," answered my mother.

"How can that be? Is this some kind of new weapon?!" Said father furiously.

"......." Weapon? I'm speechless....

Doesn't this world know anesthetics?

In the middle of my parents conversation, suddenly my room's door was slammed by a middle age man who wear a doctor attire. He was panting and covered in sweat. It looks like he ran all the way here with all his might.

"Earl Ailith? Didn't you say that your daughter is severely injured by an assassin?" That man looked shocked and confused to see me.

"Huh? Doctor Greyham? What....? Why....?" My father looked just as confused as that man. So do my mother.

Haahh......it looks like they are confused because they thought that Doctor Greyham is the one who treated my wound.

"Father, Mother, the one who treated my wound is not Doctor Greyham," explained me.

"Eeh?! It's not Doctor Greyham?! Then, who....?" My father seemed to be extremely shocked to hear my statement.

"It was a friend of mine," I answered him.

"Friend? You have a friend who is a doctor?" Asked Father again.

I nod my head to answer his question.

"Ah, Doctor Greyham, since you are here already, can you take a look at our daughter's condition?" Asked Mother to Doctor Greyham.

"Ah! Of course!" Doctor Greyham quickly approaches me and checks my condition.

"She is okay. It's amazing.... Even the wound is almost dry already," said Doctor Greyham with a surprised look.

"Thank you so much doctor, we are sorry for troubling you all the way here," said my mother with guilt.

"No, no, I didn't even do anything, please don't mention it, it's really okay," said Doctor Greyham with an awkward smile.

When talking to my mother, Doctor Greyham seems to notice the bloody arrow on the desk beside my bed.

"T-that is....!" The doctor is in shocked to see the arrow.

He grabs that arrow and observes it's every detail.

"This arrow is poisoned by the famous deadly poison which didn't have any antidote! How can someone survive after being stabbed by this?! There's not even a trace of poison left in her body!" Said Doctor Greyham while trembling with excitement.

"Young miss! Please tell me the identity of the doctor who treated your injuries! This is going to be a big discovery in the medical world!" Continued Doctor Greyham excitedly.

My father and my mother look just as curious as Doctor Greyham.

"Sorry, I've promised her not to tell anyone about her identity. She is my savior afterall, I can't betray her. I'm sorry once again," I politely apologized to Doctor Greyham.

Doctor Greyham seems dejected to hear my answer.

"I understand....." said Doctor Greyham with a sad face.

"Then, since young miss is fine already, I'll excuse myself, Earl Ailith, Countess Ailith, young miss," Doctor Greyham bid his farewell to us.

After Doctor Greyham left, my parents also went back to their room. They want me to have a good rest so that I can recuperate faster.

Narrator pov.

When Doctor Greyham arrived at his house, a bunch of Royal Knights were waiting for him.

"Doctor Greyham, please come with us! It's an emergency!" Said one of the Royal Knight in panic.

"What happened?" Asked Doctor Greyham worriedly.

He had a bad feeling about this.

"His Highness Prince Gerald had fallen into a critical condition!" Answered the Royal Guard.

Hearing his answer, Doctor Greyham quickly followed the royal guards and rushed to the royal palace.

After checking Prince Gerald condition, Doctor Greyham expression turned sad and helpless.

"How is his condition, Doctor Greyham?" Asked the king with a worried look.

Doctor Greyham shook his head.

"I'm sorry your majesty, I don't think I can do anything to save the prince," said Doctor Greyham.

"No! No! Please don't say that Doctor Greyham! You must save my son! Please.... I beg you.....I will do anything! Please...." The queen begged Doctor Greyham to save her son with tears that had overflowed from her eyes.

"Please forgive me, your majesty. It's not like I don't want to save the prince. But, I really can't do it," said Doctor Greyham helplessly.

"No! It's impossible! You must be able to do something....." Said the queen desperately. She cried even harder than before.

The king hugged the queen and tried to console her. But, the queen still can't stop her tears from falling.

Seeing the scene in front of him, Doctor Greyham can only blame himself for not being good enough to save the prince's life.

In their despair, something suddenly came to Doctor Greyham's mind.

"Ah! There might be someone who can help Prince Gerald!" Said Doctor Greyham with a streak of hope.

Hearing his words, the queen immediately took Doctor Greyham's hand.

"Who is it?! Please tell me!" Said the queen impatiently. The king also stared at doctor Greyham with hope in his eyes.

"This evening, Earl Ailith's daughter was attacked by an assassin. Her shoulder got stabbed with a poisoned arrow which is known to be extremely deadly and has no cure. But, she miraculously survived from that poison. She said that she was treated by her friend who is a doctor. The problem is, she had promised that doctor that she will hide her identity," explained doctor Greyham.

"Let's go to Earl Ailith's house now! We can't waste our time any more! I will ask Earl Ailith's daughter in person!" Said the queen.

The king agreed with her. With that, the king, the queen, Doctor Greyham, and some of the royal guards went to Earl Ailith's house.

"Y-y-your majesty! What brings you here?!" Earl Ailith's was really startled by the king and queen's arrival at his house. He nervously led them in.

"Earl Ailith, we need to ask something to your daughter," said the king.

"My daughter? Ah.....please pardon me your majesty, but my daughter was attacked by an assassin this evening. It will be best for her to stay in her bed and rest for some periods of time. So, I'm affraid she can't meet you right now," said Earl Ailith with an apologetic face.

"Please let us meet her! It's okay even if it's just for a while! She doesn't need to come down to greet us, we will go to her room! This is really important, Earl Ailith! Please! We promise that we won't disturb her rest!" Said the queen desperately.

"O-okay then.... I will guide your majesty to my daughter's room," answered Earl Ailith with a surprised and confused expression.

Giselle Ailith pov.

After a few hours of sleep, someone knocked my door.

"Giselle, this is father, we are coming in, okay?" Said my father from the outside.

"Okay, father," answered me.

What does my father want at this time? It's almost midnight already.

When my father opened the door, I realize that there are five other persons behind him.

"Giselle, the king and the queen is here to see you," said my father.

I was startled to hear my father's words. The king and the queen??!! What do they want from me?!! I tried to come down from my bed and greet them formally, but the king and queen stopped me.

"Please don't get up from your bed. We've heard about your condition from your father and doctor Greyham," said the queen with a smile.

The queen smile is sincere, but I can see some sadness in her eyes. I wonder what had happened to her.

"Then, please excuse my impoliteness your majesty," I politely apologized to them.

"How is your condition? Are you okay?" Asked the queen to me.

"Yes, I am okay already, your majesty. Thank you for your concerns," I answered her with a polite smile.

"That's a relief," said the queen again.

"Giselle, the truth is, my son, Gerald, is in a critical condition now. His illness is very serious that even doctor Greyham can't help him anymore. We heard that you have a friend who is a very good doctor. Could you please ask her to help us?" Asked the queen to me.

What?! Gerald?! He is one of the capture target!! What should I do now?!! To be honest, I really want to help this queen. She is truly a kind and gentle person. But.....

"I'm sorry your majesty, but I've already promised her to hide her identity....." I answered her with a sad face.

"I know, I know that. But, please Giselle. My son's life is on your hand....I can't bear to live without him.... I will do anything if you agreed to help us! I will grant any of your wish!" Said the queen while crying.

"Y-your majesty, please don't cry! I-I will try to ask her to help the Prince!" Ugh... I was defeated by her tears.....

I grab a paper and a pen from the drawer beside me and start to write a letter to Selene. After my letter is finished I give it to the queen and say, "If your majesty bring this letter to Leonardo Orphanage and give it to a girl named Selene Maeve, she will deliver it to the doctor that you want to meet."

"Thank you, thank you so much Giselle. I will surely repay your kindness today," said the queen while holding my hand.

"Thank you Giselle, Earl Ailith. We will go to Leonardo Orphanage now," said the king to us.

"It's our pleasure, your majesty," answered my father.
