Chapter 5: "The School Day"
Lilly walked through the school hallways, her eyes scanning the crowds of students rushing to their next class. She felt a flutter in her chest as she wondered if she'd see Alex.
As she turned a corner, she spotted him leaning against his locker, chatting with a group of friends. Their eyes met, and Alex flashed her a quick smile before turning back to his conversation.
Lilly felt a blush rise to her cheeks as she hurried to her next class. She couldn't believe how much she'd been thinking about Alex since their coffee shop meeting.
Throughout the day, Lilly caught glimpses of Alex in the hallways, cafeteria, and even in class. Each time, their eyes would meet, and Lilly would feel a spark of electricity.
At lunchtime, Lilly sat with her friends in the cafeteria, trying to focus on their conversation. But her eyes kept drifting to Alex, who was sitting across the room with his friends.
One of Lilly's friends, Emily, noticed her gaze and raised an eyebrow. "Who's caught your eye, Lilly?" she teased.
Lilly felt her face grow hot as she quickly looked away. "No one," she muttered.
But Emily just laughed. "Don't worry, we won't tell anyone. Yet."
Lilly playfully rolled her eyes, trying to brush off the attention. But inside, she was thrilled that someone had noticed her connection with Alex.
As she watched, Alex's friends suddenly got up, saying they had something to take care of. "Catch you later, man," one of them called out, clapping Alex on the back.
Alex nodded, watching his friends walk away. Then, his eyes scanned the cafeteria, coming to rest on Lilly's table.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Lilly felt her heart skip a beat as Alex's gaze held hers, a small smile playing on his lips.
Lilly's friends noticed her distraction and turned to see what she was looking at. Emily raised an eyebrow, but Lilly just quickly looked away, trying to play it cool.
As soon as Lilly looked away, her friends turned to her with concerned expressions.
"Hey, what's going on with you and Alex?" Emily asked, her voice low but serious.
Lilly shrugged, trying to downplay the situation. "Nothing, we just...ran into each other."
But her friends weren't buying it. "Save it, Lilly," her friend Sarah said. "We saw the way he was looking at you. And the way you were looking at him."
Lilly felt her face grow hot as her friends leaned in, their voices filled with warning.
"Lilly, you know his reputation," Emily said. "He's not exactly the kind of guy you want to get involved with.
But Lilly wasn't listening to anything her friends were saying because to her Alex was a good guy. She only assured her friends that she's not attracted to him and they were only working on a project together. Her friends looked at her skeptically but there was nothing they could do since she has assured them.
