Beneath the Surface

Beneath the Surface

Ordinary days

Lilly woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring in her ear. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and sat up in bed, her long, curly brown hair tangled from a restless night's sleep. Her bright green eyes sparkled as she smiled, but it was a practiced smile, one that hid the doubts and fears that lurked beneath.

She got out of bed and began her morning routine, brushing her teeth and washing her face. Her room was tidy, with her bed made and her clothes organized in her closet. Lilly was a planner, and she liked everything to be just so.

Downstairs, her family was already gathered in the kitchen, eating breakfast. Her mom, dad, and younger brother, Max, all smiled at her as she entered the room.

"Morning, sweetie," her mom said, giving her a hug. "How are you today?"

"I'm good, Mom," Lilly replied, pouring herself a bowl of cereal. "Just getting ready for another day."

As they finished breakfast, Lilly's mom reminded her about her responsibilities for the day. "Don't forget to pick up Max from soccer practice after school, and then you've got your volunteer shift at the animal shelter."

Lilly nodded, making a mental note of her schedule. She was always busy, but she wouldn't have it any other way. She felt a sense of purpose in helping others, and it gave her a sense of fulfillment.

As she grabbed her backpack and headed out the door, Lilly felt a sense of routine wash over her. This was her life, and she was exactly where she was meant to be. Or so she told herself.

But as she walked to school, a faint sense of restlessness crept over her. It was a feeling she couldn't quite explain, a nagging sense that there was more to life than the familiar routine she'd fallen into.

Lilly pushed the feeling aside, telling herself she was just being silly. She had everything she needed right here in Oakdale. She had her family, her friends, and her community. What more could she possibly want?

As she walked through the school doors, Lilly was greeted by the familiar sights and sounds of her daily routine. She exchanged pleasantries with her friends and classmates, but her mind couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.

Little did she know, her life was about to take a dramatic turn. One that would challenge everything she thought she knew about herself and her place in the world. But as soon as she enters the classroom the feeling disappeared as she starts preparing herself for the math quiz that was about to start.

Lilly had always been a top student since she was little and her parents would always use her as a role model to her sibling Max who likes throwing tantrums and isn't as perfect as she. She knows Max doesn't like it whenever her parents talks about her.
