For three whole days, I hadn’t seen Damien since the day I idiotically left my phone in the chemistry lab. You’d think that would be a relief, right? Less contact with the male lead who seems convinced I’m his personal runaway rabbit.
But of course, luck’s not on my side. Normally, Damien and I wouldn’t even cross paths—different classes, different lives. Heck, even Damien and Alex, his supposed soulmate, are in separate classes. But today? Today’s the day the universe decides to have a laugh at my expense by mixing seniors and juniors together for history class. It’s like the cosmos is sitting back with popcorn, watching the chaos unfold.
According to the book’s original plot, today’s the day Alex and Damien are supposed to be thrown together for a history presentation. This is where their legendary love story kicks off—working late after school, bonding over boring history facts, with stolen glances that could launch a thousand ships.
Each group has four members. The plan is simple: the other two group members pair up, leaving Alex and Damien alone to let the romantic tension build. Alex, being the shy, delicate flower that he is, feels awkward about being alone with Damien. Enter Luca—my unfortunate host—who gallantly volunteers to keep Alex company. Luca’s real agenda? Seduce Damien, of course. The snag? Damien has as much interest in Luca as a cat does in a bath.
But now, as if the fates are having a particularly mischievous day, I—yes, me—have been thrown into Damien’s group instead of Alex! My heart sinks into my shoes. What cruel twist of fate is this? Why is the story suddenly going off-script, and why am I being forced into the center of it? This wasn’t part of the plan!
“Luca, are you okay?”
I blink and turn to see Alex, sitting beside me, looking worried. “What do you mean?”
“You look like someone just told you that all chocolate has been banned.”
Oh, if only it were that simple. “It’s worse. This is a slow, painful demise brought on by the universe itself.”
Maybe, just maybe, I can still steer this ship back on course. If I play my cards right, Alex and Damien will end up together, and I can retreat into the background where I belong.
“Hey, Alex,” I say, dropping my voice to a secretive whisper. “Remember how you bumped into Damien at the library the other day?”
“Yeah… why?”
“Wouldn’t you rather be in his group? You know, spend some quality time together, maybe bond over how boring history is?”
But before Alex can answer, a voice cuts through the air like a knife, making my heart leap into my throat. “Ah, trying to wriggle out of this, little rabbit?”
I whip around so fast I nearly give myself whiplash. Damien is sitting right behind me, his usual infuriating smirk firmly in place. Wait a minute—wasn’t he at the front of the class just a moment ago? How does he keep teleporting like some kind of shadowy stalker?
“Could you stop with the whole rabbit thing? I’m not a rabbit,” I hiss, trying to keep my cool while the teacher drones on at the front. If it weren’t for the fact that we’re in a classroom, I would’ve thrown my textbook at his annoyingly smug face.
Damien leans back in his chair, clearly enjoying my frustration. “If you don’t want to be called a rabbit, stop acting like one. A rabbit doesn’t get to be a wolf, you know. And wolves never run from their prey.”
“What are you even—”
“Luca, please, no fighting,” Alex whispers, tugging at my arm before I can launch into a full tirade. My blood is boiling, but I know he’s right. The last thing I need is to get into a shouting match with this wolf in front of the whole class.
And just like that, my fate is sealed. I’m stuck in a group with Damien, the wolf who seems to have made it his life’s mission to turn mine upside down. It’s like I’ve been sentenced to some twisted punishment for crimes I didn’t even commit.
The bell rings, signaling the end of class, and I slump back in my chair, defeated. There’s no escape now. I’m trapped in this story, and worse, I’m trapped in this group with Damien. What kind of messed-up fate is this where I’m the one who has to deal with the wolf while the plot spirals out of control? I can already feel my sanity slipping away.
As I gather my things, I catch Damien watching me with that infuriating smirk. He’s enjoying this way too much. “Better keep up, rabbit. You wouldn’t want to fall behind.”
Wonderful. Just wonderful. How did I end up in this mess? One thing’s for sure: if I’m going to survive this, I’ll need a game plan. Because there’s no way I’m letting this wolf get the better of me.
