"Oh, my bad! Your face looked so fierce, like a rabbit gearing up to take down a wolf. I thought you were about to slap me."
Ugh, I could just punch this guy right now. It doesn't matter if you're the main character or whatever. With every ounce of strength I had, I pushed Damien as hard as I could—only to see him not move an inch. Seriously, what's going on here?! I know the book said Damien was as strong as a gorilla, but Luca can't be this weak, right?
His arms tightened around my waist, making it impossible to ignore the fact that my heart was practically screaming in panic. It felt like it was going to burst out of my chest, and my face? Burning up like it was trying to compete with the sun. I'm so mad I could just explode!
"Relax. Take a deep breath. We can talk about this, no need to get all dramatic." He stared down at me with that infuriatingly calm expression, and the height difference between us couldn't have been more obvious. I mean, sure, I knew he was tall, but does Luca have to be this short? I barely even reach his armpit!
"Let go of me! Have you lost your mind?!" I didn't care if I sounded like a lunatic screaming in his face. If I'm supposed to be the psycho character, then why should I care what Damien thinks? The priority right now is to free myself from his grip, grab my phone, and put at least a three-kilometer buffer between me and this walking disaster.
"Don't cry. I was just messing with you." Huh? Who's crying—? Oh, no. My vision's going blurry. Am I really crying?! No way, I can't be crying!
"Here," suddenly, his laid-back tone disappeared, replaced by something almost... concerned? But before I could overthink it, I felt my body being lifted off the ground and placed on the desk like I was some kind of fragile antique. Did this guy seriously just pick me up and plop me on the desk? What does he think I am, a piece of furniture?
He grabbed my now ice-cold hands and slipped my phone into them. Any tears that had been threatening to spill instantly dried up when he wiped them away. My face, already flushed, felt like it was about to combust, and every vein in my body seemed on the verge of bursting.
"Next time, don't run away when you see me. A wolf's eyes can track every move of the rabbit it's after."
Are you kidding me? Who does he think he is? "D-Didn't know someone your age was still into children's bedtime stories. Why don't you join the kindergarteners if you're so keen on talking about rabbits and wolves?"
I muttered under my breath, trying to jump off the desk without falling flat on my face. I wanted to scream at him, but my voice just wasn't cooperating. Ugh, forget it, I'm out of here. I don't need to see his smug face any longer. But why do I feel like crying again? Before my vision could blur with tears, I made a quick exit from the lab, not daring to look back even once.
