Dodging Fate in Pink Pyjamas

In this novel, every single character is a werewolf. But don't get too excited—there's no running wild in the woods or dramatic howling at the moon. Nope, these werewolves look just like regular humans. The only real difference is their secondary gender: Alpha, Beta, or Omega.

And as expected, our main character is an Omega—naturally, the destined sweetheart of the resident troublemaker, Damien. Luca (the body I'm currently stuck in) just happens to be best friends with this Omega, Alex. They met during school registration last year. The novel's plot goes something like this: Alex, a kid from the next town over, moves here because his dad gets a job transfer.

"Luca, are you sure you don't want to go to the library?" Alex asks me for what feels like the hundredth time. I've already told him no so many times, but he keeps at it. I'm annoyed, but then I look at his face and... ugh, my resolve crumbles. He really is just as beautiful as the author described.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, a face so innocent it could melt ice—and far too trusting for his own good. This is exactly why he's so easy to manipulate, especially by the real Luca. To be fair, Luca's no slouch in the looks department either—almost on par with Alex, but with a bolder, sexier edge. Maybe it's the pink hair that screams "look at me!" from a mile away. And don't get me started on Luca's wardrobe: tight, short, pink, floral... basically, the kind of clothes that would make a Barbie doll blush.

The first thing I did after landing in this book was go shopping. I bought the baggiest, least pink clothes I could find, along with regular pants. I still remember the look on everyone's faces when they saw what I was wearing. It probably looked downright bizarre for Luca—a werewolf with a reputation for flamboyance—to suddenly dress like a background character.

"Nope, not happening. You go ahead. I'll wait right here." There's no way I'm stepping foot in that library. Today, right this minute, is when the whole romance between Damien and Alex is supposed to kick off. Alex is supposed to accidentally bump into Damien, and Damien falls head over heels on the spot.

According to the book, Luca isn't supposed to be with Alex when it happens. Alex is meant to gush about Damien to Luca afterward. Luca knows Damien, sure, but at that point, he hasn't made any moves on him yet. And I intend to keep it that way. My plan is simple: watch from a safe distance and slowly, very slowly, fade out of their lives altogether.

It's a foolproof strategy because, later in the story, Damien goes on a rampage after Luca tries to poison Alex's food. Spoiler alert: it doesn't end well for Luca. And let me tell you, I have zero intention of being on the receiving end of Damien's wrath.

So, while Alex heads into the library, blissfully unaware of the chaos about to unfold, I'll be here, keeping my distance and plotting my escape. Because if there's one thing I've learned from being stuck in this ridiculous novel, it's that self-preservation is key. Let the main characters have their drama—I'm just trying to make it out of here alive.
