CHAPTER 2: STALK
Through the first 7 seconds of the lecture video, I paused it 19 times due to my inability to focus on it.
I blamed it all on the fact that I had checked the school chat group right before settling down to study and since I was the subject of the hundreds of texts that they sent, curiosity was getting the better of me.
Those little evidences of humanity’s failures….
A sigh came from the innermost depths of my existence yet again. Shrinking into the chair, I thought how really I was tired from all this stuff going on and now, deserve to at least have some light on the identity of the artist of my fanart.
I have got to thank whoever took their time out to draw a picture of me. I want to…
Sherwin Lin.
I shot up at the thought of the name. As far as I was aware, he was a really good artist and one of the very few names in school which I was associated with painting and arts. I’ve always saw him running here and there for art events even though he was not in arts stream. Sherwin was effortlessly good at almost everything, you just name it.
Plus, his art style was really similar to the artstyle my fanart was drawn in.
However…
My conscience tells me ‘no’.
Why? Because “we mutually did not care about the other.”
Or did we actually?
I should really stop this chain of thinking as it seemed to be nothing rationally, just my wishful thinking.
I was done with all this complicated thinking, my head physically hurted and to give no rest to my head, I decided to dive into stalking someone.
And of course, that ‘somebody’ was none other than Sherwin Lin.
Just as most of our classmates, Sherwin may also have a social media account, right? Instagram, Facebook, Messenger or any one of those hundred thousand social medias which ruins the life of youngsters.
I opened Whatsapp and since we already were a bunch of same groups, including ones from the 9th, 10th and 11th grade itself and had worked together several times, I had Sherwin's personal number but I never really cared enough to actually go on and look into his socials.
His profile picture was of a dog...maybe his or maybe off tumblr or pinterest...? I had no idea.
"Maths is the father of all subjects," Was his bio.
For real...?
I knew his favourite subject was mathematics, I knew he was always intensely into the subject but this much?
That is something.
I suddenly remember back in 10th grade when me and Sherwin once got into an argument which basically went like:
"You act like you know everything but you cram up those 120 words sample answers just so you would not flunk the literature test," The immature 16 year old me back then shouted at the highest decibels human voice can get to.
"And you act like you don't ever cram up mathematics problems literally," The immature 16 year old Sherwin back then shouted back at the highest decibels human voice can get to again.
"You jerks should just calm tf down," Some classmates also yelled back at us.
I face flushed a bright red from embarrassment remembering this incident. How immature...
It was astronomical.
How much I hated mathematics while how much he loved it.
The more I kept thinking about the whole situation, the more hilarious it got before I eventually broke out into giggles.
That was the first night in a while where I went to sleep with a smile on my face.
