Episode 5

After Aiden finished his breakfast, the nanny took the plate and left the room, but Jade remained in Aiden's room, making Liam feel uncertain.

"Miss Jade, aren't you going?" Liam asked her.

Jade replied with a smile on her face, looking at Aiden, who couldn't see her due to his blind condition—though he wasn't fully blind. "Today is the weekend, I don't have to go to work. I'm here to get to know my fiancé more deeply," Jade said.

There was a knock on the door, and Aiden's parents entered the room with big smiles on their faces, complimenting Jade on her food.

"Jade, your food is amazing," Aiden's father said, giving her a thumbs-up.

"Father, Mother," Aiden addressed his parents, and his father approached him, asking, "Are you all right, son?"

"I'm okay, father," Aiden replied, and his mother added, "By the way, Aiden, today mother and father need to go to a new city for a couple of weeks for the business. Mom has asked Jade to accompany you in my absence, and today you have an appointment at the hospital, right? Let Jade accompany you."

"Huh, mother, I can go by myself, I have Laim,"Aiden said to his mother, trying to find a reliable, mistakenly grabbing Jade's hand again. Unfortunately, Jade worsened the situation by staying silent with a smile on her face when Aiden touched her hand. His parents saw the situation getting worse without further words and left with the chuckles.

His mother added one last sentence, "Son, more people mean more help. We are late. Please, take good care of Aiden for us, Jade. Aunty and uncle are leaving now."

"Let's go to the hospital, my fiancé," Jade said playfully, unknown to Aiden that he was holding her hand, mistaking it for Liam's hand. When Aiden felt something wrong and tried to identify the person's hand he was holding, he realized it was Jade's hand again. He quickly pulled away, but Jade caught his hand and said, "I promised auntie and uncle to take care of you during their absence, so you can't wander too far from me."

"It seems like I won't have to do my work for a while,'"Liam thought to himself.

Liam drove the car to take Aiden to the hospital for his appointment, with Jade accompanying them. Jade wasn't one to sit still; she looked around and out the window while Aiden sat silently, trying to maintain his composure despite feeling like Jade was just a little girl.

In the situation, without a word, Jade suddenly began asking Aiden questions. Before she asked, Jade waved her hand in front of Aiden's eyes, and he said, "What are you doing?" Surprised, Jade said, "You saw me.''

"I'm not completely blind," Aiden said. Jade smiled and asked, "So there is a chance that you can see again?"

Aiden didn't answer, turning to look out the windows side and Jade continued asking other questions when he didn't respond. "By the way, have you read the letters I wrote to you?” Jade already knew the answer but still wanted to hear it from him. "No, how could I see?" Aiden replied. "And I don't want to read them either."

Jade fell silent, feeling a little disappointed, and Aiden was affected by her silence as well. Little did she know, they had arrived at the hospital.

Liam got out of the car to assist Aiden from the backseat, and Jade followed, leaving Liam confused. "What's wrong with Miss Jade? Earlier, she seemed to want to stay close to you. Why?" Aiden intervened with a firm voice, "So, are you coming or not?"

@Hospital...

The doctor's office was a sterile, clinical space. Aiden sat in apprehensive silence on the examination chair, his eyes fixed on the blurry shapes and lights in the room. Jade hovered nearby, her concern evident in the furrow of her brow and the way she tightly clasped her hands together.

Dr. Stevens, a seasoned ophthalmologist, conducted a battery of tests, asking Aiden to discern shapes, count fingers, and respond to varying light intensities. Aiden's attempts were futile, his responses either incorrect or met with silence.

Jade watched the doctor's expressions for a glimmer of hope but found none. Dr. Stevens sighed, removing his glasses and rubbing his temples before delivering the grim news.

"MR. Aiden," the doctor's voice was gentle yet laden with finality, "your optic nerves have sustained significant damage. I'm afraid your condition is irreversible. Your vision impairment is severe, and there's no expected improvement."

The weight of those words hung in the air. Jade's heart sank as she glanced at Aiden, who sat there in silent acceptance, his world forever cloaked in darkness.

"I'm truly sorry," Dr. Stevens added, a hint of regret in his tone.

Aiden's shoulders sagged as he absorbed the verdict. Jade moved closer, her hand finding his, a wordless gesture of comfort amidst the bleak prognosis. She felt his despair, his hopes dashed in an instant, and wished she could turn back time to change this reality.

Exiting the doctor's office, Aiden's gait was heavier, more uncertain. Jade walked beside him, grappling with the enormity of his perpetual darkness, wishing she could illuminate even a fraction of his world.
