Chapter 3: Test and Scores

Tohru spent the next few days training with Lucy and Cedric for the entrance exam.

The day came, and they went all the way to the capital.

While somewhere along the path, A guy wearing a dark cloak is seen roaming about.

A kid who was apparently running bumped into him making the guy fall.

The kid helped the guy up and apologized before he ran off into an alley

"What a sucker! He did even notice I took his bag of coins"The kid said to himself gleefully as he removed the coin bag from the inner pocket of his ragged jacket.

He opened the bag and discovered that it was filled with useless things.

"What a waste of my acting"the kid thought angrily

"All this is making me hungry "He sighed and reached his hand in his jacket for his own coin bag, but to his horror, it was gone!

The guy from earlier took off the hood of his cloak. He had blue-black hair and sea blue eyes

He was looking down at the coin bag he stole from the kid with grin on his face

"Did he really think he could steal from the best thief in the kingdom"The guy thought to himself

Then Tohru who was paying no less attention than he was bumped into him

"Sorry sir"Tohru apologized as she helped him up

This is the second time"the guy muttered, rubbing his butt

"Sorry "Tohru apologized again before leaving to meet up with Lucy and Cedric

They got to the training area of the school where the practical exam was to be held.

It was crowded with excited people. They were all pumped to start the exams.

Then a man who introduced himself as Professor Lionheart informed everyone that he was the examiner and will oversee them during the exams.

"When I call your name, please step forward and demonstrate your magical ability on the dummy provided and I will grade you accordingly also when you're done enter the building and wait for the written exam" Lionheart informed them

"Lucia Mendez"

A tall red head came out and walked over to Lionheart.

"Well, show us what you can do"

Lucia stood in front of the dummy, she pointed her finger at it and muttered an incarnation

The ice sprouted out of the ground where the dummy was placed. The icicles dissolved to nothing and there were holes left on the dummy. Everyone applauded her.

Seconds later, the holes vanished, and the dummy was looking good as new, leaving everyone except Lionheart astonished.

"Oh forgot to say, the dummy can't retain damage for long, if you have weak magic, it won't get damaged at all"

"Lucy Cleoford"

"Good luck Luz"Tohru smiled

"Thanks I'll need it "

Lucy nervously walked over to the dummy, she said an incarnation and thorny vine sprouted out from the ground around the dummy and wrapped itself around it. The dummy was severely damaged and Lucy passed. Everyone applauded her as she went into the main building

"Is it just me or do you sense this weird presence?"Tohru whispered to Cedric

"I don't know what you are talking about "said Cedric

"Cedric Cleoford "

Cedric walked out with his chest held high feeling indeed confident

As expected, he crushed the obstacle, well literally with the help of his earth magic

A while later,

"Tohru Yashiro"

she went out and stood in front of the dummy letting out a sigh and closed her eyes

"What is going on?"

"Why is she just standing there?"

"I guess she knows she is weak"

Tohru opened her eyes and the dummy caught into blue flames destroying the said to be indestructible dummy leaving everyone dumbfounded.

She didn't get an applause from anyone, they just stared at her astonished.

"I hope I held back enough" she thought worriedly as she walked over to the building.

"I didn't hear anyone clapping, I hope sh—"but before Lucy could finish, Tohru walked in and Lucy ran to her and gave her a hug

"Oh Tohru I was worried, why didn't they clap? I thought you didn't make it"Lucy practically sobbed

"Calm down Lucy, you're making it sound as if she was in a life-threatening battle "Cedric said, beaming

A few hours later, the hall was packed, the practical exam was over.

"we will be having the written exam now."Lionheart announced

Everyone took their seats.

"The exam is simple and very straightforward, you just have to answer all the questions" Lionheart explained

"Ok, now you can begin"

Tohru looked down at the test paper and to her horror, she couldn't even understand a word on it.

"There's no way I'm the only one who can't understand this"Tohru thought. She looked around the class, but everyone seemed calm and fixed on their papers.

"I guess I just have to wing it"Tohru sighed and went back to her paper

After an hour, Lionheart collected the papers.

"Your scores will be sent to you in the next few days"Lionheart informed them, and they left.

"We've had a long day, I reckon we get a reward"Lucy said, trying to convince Cedric

"Yeah, she's right"Tohru agreed

"please Cedric"Lucy begged

"Fine"Cedric let out a sigh

"Yay!"the girls squealed.

"Let's go to the arcade!" Lucy suggested

"" Tohru don't you agree?"

"There's an arcade in this world too?"Tohru thought

"Tohru?" Lucy said waving her hand in front of her face

"Sorry, I was lost in thought"Tohru apologized

"It's ok, I asked if you'd like to go to the arcade?" Lucy asked

"yeah that would be great"

"Now that's settled, we can go now. I know the way"Lucy said practically dragging Cedric and Tohru

Sometime later, they arrived at a small building with a sign saying 'arcade' hanging above it.

"it doesn't look like what I expected but I hope the inside isn't so disappointing"Tohru muttered

They went inside the arcade, though it was a little shabby it was still better than the outside

"At least the games don't look all that bad"Lucy said, enthusiastically

"One game and we're outta here"Cedric said

"ok ,fine.let's play the game!"Tohru insisted as she dragged Lucy to it.

"I've always loved this game"

"Lucy,wanna try first?"

"yeah I'm gonna get that stuffed penguin.its Soo damned cute"Lucy responded

" 'kay give it your all"said Tohru,

Lucy confidently walked up to it and held the controls.she lowered the claw to grab the penguin but missed.

"Hehe, that was a slip.I'm sure I'll get it this time"Lucy let out a little laugh.

One hour later...

Lucy still hadn't caught a single plushie.

"you sure I shouldn't help?"Tohru asked Lucy who was obviously pissed about her failures

"Na,I can do it.im sure I'll get it this time"Lucy replied

She gave it another shot.she lowered the claw to where the penguin was.

"Tohru!it grabbed it!"Lucy exclaimed

The plushie came out of the slot but to Lucy's dismay, it wasn't the penguin but it was the stuffed unicorn that laid beside the penguin.

"you can have it"Lucy handed the unicorn to Tohru

"I don't want it."Lucy said, knowing that Tohru would not want to accept it.

"we should head back home I'm exhausted"Lucy said sadly.all the enthusiasm she had before drained from her.

so Lucy sulked in front while Cedric and Tohru walked behind, enduring the awkward silence.

Tohru couldn't sleep,she was thrashing all night in her bed worrying if she had flunked the test, this had been worrying her all day but she sucked it up so she won't spoil the mood for Cedric or Lucy.

As expected she wouldn't wake up early.

The following morning,a girl who looked about ten, coffee brown hair like Gila's in the inn uniform

"wake up miss or you'll miss breakfast"the little girl said trying to wake Tohru up.

"huh.lemme sleep five more minutes"Tohru said sleepily.

"no I can't! you'll miss breakfast"the girl replied

"wait! I absolutely cannot miss breakfast!"Tohru exclaimed, the sleep seems to have left her as she sprung out of her bed.

"thank you er—"

"Lotte, my name's Lotte"the girl interjected

"ok, thank you Lotte you have saved my life and a deed like this needs to be rewarded!"Tohru said scanning her room while Lotte is left there "wondering what the hell is going on"

Tohru set her eyes on the stuffed unicorn from yesterday and gave it to Lotte her eyes glitz for a second and she came back to her senses

"no ma'am I simply can't accept this,I didn't do anything worthy of your gift"Lotte refused the unicorn sadly, though deep down she was craving it

"no ,I insist ,I have no use for it anyway and it'll be a shame burning it "Tohru let out a sigh

"ok,if you say it like that, I guess I have no other choice"Lotte said, accepting it happily

"now I'm going to have breakfast.I'm starving!"

Tohru rushed down stairs and sat on the counter to have breakfast

"Tohru, I wanna thank you"Gila said

"For what?I haven't done anything special"

"I want to thank you for befriending Cedric and Lucy"

"No no no, don't thank me I'm happy to have friends as well"

"Ever since their parents passed, they only had themselves,I was always worried about them"Gila went on as though she hadn't heard what Tohru said

"I'll make sure that I'll find something good enough for you"

"No that's not ne—"

Tohru was cut off by a ringing sound .she looked around for where the sound might have come from but then a halaugraphic board appeared in front of her

"it looks like your result has been sent"

"wow, that was fast"

"open the message then"

Tohru nervously clicks on the message box

The message read:

"You have been accepted. Scoring third overall

Your uniform will be sent to you later today"

"whaat?!third?!"Tohru squealed, both shocked and happy.

"Tohru! Tohru!" Lucy called out as she ran down the stairs with Cedric behind her

"You got your message right? What you get?" Lucy demanded

"uh I got 3rd place"Tohru answer

"Oh, I shoulda known.I came 21st"Lucy said

"that's awesome! Whatchu get Cedric?"Tohru asked

"I came in 19th position "Cedric replied smugly

"Yeah, yeah no need to rub it in"Lucy visibly rolled her eyes

"I'm soo proud of you guys!" Gila said as she rushed from the counter and gave them a bear hug

"Thanks"Tohru said enjoying the bear hug. She couldn't even remember when last she was shown this much affection

"Gila I can't breathe"

"oh sorry I couldn't control myself"Gila apologized, letting them go

"This calls for a celebration!" Gila exclaimed

Many hours later...

The inn was packed with people. They had all come to celebrate Tohru, Lucy and Cedric's success.

The party didn't end, it went on all night so Tohru decided to retire to her room feeling drowsy.

The next day, Gila woke Tohru up herself.

"Tohru, wake up!" Gila shouted as she shook Tohru

"Yeah, I'm up"Tohru replied drowsily as she scratched her sleepy eyes

"You have to get ready, quickly. I have something important to show you"Gila said hastily

"Ok, I'll be fast since it seems so urgent"Tohru said, standing up

About fifty minutes later, Gila left the house with Tohru.

They arrived in front of a peach-colored building

"As a gift I found this house for you to live in"

"But i di--"Tohru started but was cut off by Gila

"no worries no one lives here.it has been abandoned for quite a long time now"Gila said totally ignoring what Tohru said

"She really looks like she won't take no for an answer and besides I need a house too"Tohru thought

"Fine if you insist"Tohru gave in with a sigh

"Perfect! The place has been cleaned already so would you like to go back to the inn and get your things"Gila suggested

"Yeah, I'ld like to go back"Tohru replied and they both went back

In the silver moon inn,

"Gosh!where the hell have you been?" Lucy asked eyeing the two curiously

"I went out with Gila"

"oh, to where"

"Um, Lucy I'm gonna leave the inn. Gila found me a new house"Tohru told her happily

"What?!you're leaving so soon ?"Lucy asked,devastated

"Yeah,but you can come see me anytime you want"Tohru replied

"Plus i need this, my time here is over,the payment i made has expired"Tohru pointed out

"Ok,but don't be shocked when i come, you said it yourself,I might come when you least expect it."Lucy laughed lightly as she said this

"Thank you for understanding.Ill go pack now"With that,Tohru ran to her room to pack the little things she had.

There was a knock on the door.

"come in"

Cedric entered the room.

"Uh Tohru what are you doing?"Cedric asked Tohru

"oh im packing"she answered

"Wait,what?!"Cedric's reaction was quite similar to Lucy's

"Oh, you didn't know.i thought Lucy would have told you"Tohru

"Ok ill come visit sometime"Cedric said

"Really you are not going to argue?"Tohru asked him

"I'm not Lucy who doesn't respect peoples decisions, you know"Cedric let out a sigh

"Ok, see you soon"

Tohru had got up from the bed holding a bag with her things in it and left

She walked to the house.

"Ah, Home Sweet Home"said Tohru, inhaling the air

"Wow! I don't have to clean after all"Tohru thought happily after she inspected the place

"Wait… How's it clean after so many years?"

"Maybe it was Gila who cleaned the place.she really is the best"

Tohru arranged her things in the bedroom. Then her stomach let out a loud growl. She fell on the floor holding her stomach tightly

"I haven't eaten since breakfast, and it's almost dinner time"Tohru muttered.

She got up and went to the kitchen. She opened the fridge expecting it to be empty but was shocked to see, some meat and veggies in the fridge.it was weird because it was still good but Tohru was obviously too hungry to care, so she made her dinner

"Ah alas I'm not hungry anymore"Tohru said letting out a small burp and slumped on the couch

All of a sudden, the light started blinking like crazy and things randomly moved around and some floated

With a start, Tohru leapt from the couch which too started floating

"This is obviously the work of an apparation"Tohru thought as she stroked her chin a bit.
