Daddy By Chance
Thinking about my family hurts me too much, they kicked me out when I was sixteen because I made an unforgivable mistake for them, a sin. I got pregnant at that age, in fact, I found out about my pregnancy on my sixteenth birthday, in the middle of the party I fainted and my parents called the family doctor who told them I could be pregnant, but they didn't want to believe him. They asked me if I was pregnant, but I didn't tell them anything. Yes, I did spend a night with my ex-boyfriend, but it was because he drugged me and I don't remember much of that night.
In my family, we are raised to remain pure until marriage, that's why I never wanted to have intimacy with my ex, but he didn't want to wait and gave me a drug that made me the one who sought him out for sex. I didn't have any evidence, so I didn't tell my parents.
When the blood tests came back positive, my father slapped me so hard that I fell to the ground and started crying. My mother yelled at me that I was a disappointment to the family and that's how we left the clinic. When we arrived home, I told them what happened, but they didn't believe me. They told me I was a whore who brought shame to the family, and my father banished me from the family.
"You have one hour to pack your things and leave my house. From now on, I only have two sons. You are no longer part of this family," were my father's harsh words.
No matter how much I begged him to believe me, to listen to me, he wouldn't. With that pain in my heart, I went up to my room, took a handbag, and packed the essentials for a few days. In my purse, I put my documents, some money I had, my cellphone, and a few of my jewelry. I went downstairs and everyone was in the living room, including my grandparents, who never liked me because I was a girl.
"I told you that girl would only bring shame to the family," commented Leonardo, my paternal grandfather.
"Thank goodness we haven't introduced her to society, so no one will remember this shame," spoke Rodrigo, my maternal grandfather.
I looked at my brothers, the oldest one is Franco, who is two years older than me, and the youngest is Fabio, who is ten years old. They both looked at me with sadness, but they couldn't do anything against my parents' decision. I left the Ortega's grand mansion, and to my misfortune, it started to rain. I ran as fast as I could to my ex's house since we lived in the same neighborhood. I arrived quickly and knocked on the door. His nanny opened it.
"Hello, Sol. Come in, it's raining. What are you doing in the street with this rain? And on your birthday," Ines, Hugo's nanny, inquired, a sweet and kind woman.
"Hello, nanny. I'm looking for Hugo. Is he in the house?" I asked nervously and feeling cold.
"Yes, my girl. He is in his room. You know you can come in without being announced," the nanny told me, and I walked towards Hugo's room. It was obvious that he hadn't told anyone we broke up. When I stood in front of his room's door, I knocked, and he allowed me to enter.
"Come in, nanny. You know you shouldn't knock," Hugo spoke, thinking it was Ines.
"I'm not the nanny," I said as soon as I opened the door, and Hugo looked at me with surprise, maybe even joy.
"Sol, beautiful, you're here. Please tell me you forgive me for what I did. I was an idiot who let myself be influenced by his friends' advice. Please, Sol," Hugo pleaded.
"You shouldn't have done what you did, and if you did, you should have taken care of us," I replied, looking into his eyes.
"Why do you say that, Sol?" Hugo asked.
"Because I'm pregnant," I spoke while tears escaped from my face.
"Sol, are you really expecting my child?" Hugo asked, surprised.
"Yes, I'm sure. I'm so sure that my parents kicked me out and told me I'm no longer their daughter," I responded with a lot of pain.
"Sol, forgive me, I promise you that I will support you in everything, I will take care of you and our baby, I love you and if I made a mistake by giving you that drug, please forgive me," Hugo spoke desperately.
"It's okay, Hugo, our relationship will never be the same, but we can try for our baby," I responded.
And well, I don't really have many options. It's either try with Hugo, my first love and father of my baby, or live on the street pregnant and completely alone.
"Well, tomorrow we will talk to my parents. Now, change out of those wet clothes and let's rest. I think you need it," Hugo commented.
"Yes, you're right," I responded and went into the bathroom, where I took a hot shower and took out a pajama from my bag. When I came out of the bathroom, Hugo was already waiting for me to sleep.
Hugo kissed my lips and I responded, then he hugged me and we fell asleep that way. The next morning, we prepared to have breakfast and talk to his parents.
I was very nervous at the table, and it was Hugo who announced the news to his parents.
"Dad, mom, there's something we want to tell you," Hugo announced to his parents.
"What is it, son?" his father asked.
"Sol is expecting my child," Hugo replied, holding my hand.
"What are you saying? This must be a joke. You're sixteen years old, you can't have a child now. You'll ruin your future," Hugo's father spoke angrily.
"I agree with your father, Hugo. The best thing would be to terminate this pregnancy," Hugo's mother expressed.
"Mom, it's your grandchild. How can you ask us to do that?" Hugo spoke indignantly.
"I'm saying it because it's the best thing to do," Hugo's mother said.
"Yes, Hugo, either you terminate this pregnancy or you won't have anything to do with us. It's either that baby or your family," his father yelled.
"I choose my child," Hugo responded sternly.
We went up to his room for my bag, and he packed his things as well. He took out the little cash he had and some golden watches and small valuables he had.
Hand in hand, we left his parents' house.
"Hugo, are you sure about what you did?" I asked as we walked hand in hand.
"It's my fault you're pregnant. I won't leave you alone with the baby. I'll look for a part-time job; I have to do something, but I won't leave you alone," Hugo responded.
I gave him a kiss on the cheek as a thank you, and he smiled at me. Together, we took a taxi and asked the driver to take us to a place where they rented cheap rooms, and the driver took us there.
We arrived at a boarding house where we rented a small room consisting of a bathroom, a bedroom, and a small kitchen.
"It's not much, but I'll work hard to give you both everything you deserve, I promise," Hugo tells me.
Will he be able to keep that promise?
