As bad as Hope felt the first time she woke up, this time was so much worse. Every muscle in her body felt like it was cramping. Her head hurt so bad she couldn’t bare to open her eyes.
“Take it slowly, you’ve been out for some time now. You’re body will be weak.” A calm voice speaks from the side of the bed.
“How long was I out?” Hope’s voice is raspy and barely above a whisper.
“Nearly two days now. You’ve received a blood transfusion. You’ll need to keep your stitches dry until they can be removed in a week.” Zack speaks slow and soft, trying to be comforting.
“Hum.” Is all Hope replied.
“My name is Zack. I will be your doctor for the time being.”
“You know about me and why I’m here, Zack?” Hope asks.
“You’re here as a guest of the Black brothers to be a surrogate mother.” Zack sugar coats the situation.
“Oh Zack, we’re already starting our relationship with lies. Not good.” Hope sassed back. “I am here because two narcissists are trying to assult and steel from me and you are here because you’re a greedy b*stered with no morals or ethics.”
“Actually I ....” Zack tries to explain but Hope cuts him off.
“Don’t bother. There is no excuse for what you’re doing. Let me tell you what, doctor. If you touch me, the first chance I get, I will kill you. You do not have permission to treat me. Don’t even try to take my temperature. I will not have a child for those two. Period.” Hope spits out.
Zack is taken back by the hatred coming from Hope but he guesses it should be expected. He’s always been a good doctor and he believes he is a decent person so even though her attitude towards him isn’t unusual given the sir situation, it still hurts.
“Ms Fisher, as long as you have no more stupid attempts to take your life, I will not have a reason to touch you. However, if you continue to act rashly, I will restrain you to this hospital bed and have you monitored 24 hours a day.” Zack replies sternly.
“Don’t threaten me. If I want to die, I will die and there will be nothing you could do to stop me and even by chance you manage to stop me, I guarantee that I won’t be in any condition to maintain a pregnancy. 9 months is a long time and a lot can happen in that amount of time, so tell your employers that they should find someone else. I’m sure that there are plenty of girls who would take their offer. I’m not worth the trouble.” Hope reasons.
Smart girl, trying to convince the doctor that she’s not a good candidate for surrogacy. Unfortunately, I’m already of the that option and it makes no difference.
“You’re right, Ms Fisher. You are, in fact not a good candidate for carrying at child at this time. I have already talked with the brothers regarding this. For now you need to rest and get better.” Zack says trying to give Hope some hope. He needs her to have at least a little bit of sense that there is a way out of this for her, that way she may not try to take her life again.
Hope is on to him though. She turns her head away and stops engaging. How did this happen to me? I’ve never met these crazy people. I’m not exceptionaly pretty, talented, famous, I don’t come from a wealthy or influential family. I haven’t offended anyone that I know of, so why me?
Lost in thought, Hope tries her best to peace together anything that can make sense of things but no matter how hard she tries, it doesn’t make sense.
“It was your blood.” Zack says as if reading her thoughts. “You have exceptional genes, good looks, and the right profile. It took them a couple years to find someone that fit their criteria so well.”
Hope thinks back to all the times she donated blood. That would be the only way they could know about her genes.
Her parents died when she was five from a car accident. Her father died instantly but her mother was just severely injured. She needed blood and a lot of it. Hope and her mother shared the same rare blood type but Hope was to little to donate enough blood for her mother.
If the hospital had enough blood on hand at the time, her mother may have survived but that was not the case. Hope didn’t want someone else’s family to suffer the way she had so she donated as often as she could. Life really was cruel sometimes.
