Why are you doing this?!

(CHAPTER 4: WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!)

Everly broke out of unconsciousness. Her sight was blurry and confused. She tried to move but she realized she was tied in her mouth, legs, and hands.

“Nobody can hear you screaming Everly~” a person lurking in the shadows replied.

“Who are you and what do you want from me?!” She muffled.

“I couldn’t understand your question let’s take this thing off of you ok?” the person walked towards and peeled off the duct tape that was on her mouth.

“Ow!” Everly screamed in pain. She couldn’t see who the person was because of her blurry sight. The person smiled and started walking around her.

“Hahaha such a pity that no one is here to protect you~” The person said as Everly groaned in pain.

“Why are you spouting nonsense?! You have no idea that I have a husband and a best friend coming for me.” Everly was interrupted with a terrifying laugh.

“You think that your puny people will rescue you?! Hah! Think again.” the person clapped and then two strong men holding two damaged men.

“Everly! Are you ok?!” a man screamed. Everly looked up and saw Dave beaten up like a pulp.

“Dave!” Everly cried.

“Ah~ what a lovely reunion, am I right boss?” the mysterious person giggled looking at a damaged man, Manny.

“Manny!? Let him go, he has nothing to do with this!” Everly screamed.

“Ohoho~ Really?! Cuz I think there is.” The person showed a picture of Manny kissing Everly’s forehead.

“What do you have to say for yourself, Everly?” The person laughed.

“What do you want from me?!” Everly cried. She couldn’t believe the picture.

“Ha~ still the sweet and innocent Everly~ Just like the way you were 2 years ago.” the person snickered as Everly showed a surprised face.

“C-clara..?!” Everly gasped as she looked at the person revealing herself.

“Hello sweetie Everly~” Clara said as she lifts Everly’s chin up.

Clara walked back to Manny and Dave and beat their faces into a pulp. Manny was getting weaker and weaker. Dave already passed out. Everly screaming to stop hurting the weak men. But Clara kept on going. Clara stopped and turned around to Dave and showed him the picture.

“Look at this picture Dave it’s so shocking that your beloved wife actually went to her own boss and let him kiss her forehead” How do you feel? Oh! I forgot you actually passed out.” Clara laughed hysterically. She ignored Everly’s screams and cries but she had enough. She rushed to Everly and slapped her.

“Shut it brat. You should be quiet otherwise Dave will be dead.” she giggled looking at Everly’s face.

Dave and Manny were shocked.

“This wasn’t part of the plan!” They both thought.

“Clara stop this pls!” Manny cried out. Manny thought the only plan was just to let Everly sacrifice their relationship with Dave. Why did she mention that she would kill Dave?!

Dave, on the other hand, was frightened. Of course, because it wasn't part of the plan that Clara would threaten Everly. But he was afraid of his date. He is already half an hour late. He is already expecting his girlfriend worried and busting up his phone with notifs.

(I know I made Dave look like a knucklehead =-= just keep reading.)

“You said you want to know what I want from you right? And no. I’m not asking for any money. But I am only asking you to divorce Dave and let him be with me.”

Everly felt like she was punched in the face with the words that she heard. She can't just leave Dave; she loves him with all his heart. She obviously disagreed but Dave interrupted.

“Ok! We will! Just pls don’t hurt me anymore!” Everly gasped as to see Dave only rescuing himself. She couldn’t believe it. She struggled to make her way out of this. Manny was worried for Everly seeing her “husband” only saving himself. Manny was too heartbroken to see this view but Clara made him do it. For it was his fault that this happened after all.

(A BURDEN FEELING)

Manny had fallen head over heels on Everly ever since she started working. Clara was his first-ever choice to keep an eye on her. But it seems like after a day of knowing Everly it looks like she’s taken. Manny was devastated.

“Cheer up boss. There are many fishes on the sea. Or maybe you’d like something far more?” Clara was never really intact with her boss. But ever since he ordered her to keep an eye on her it seems like she took it to an advantage.

“I’m not really a professional at this nor a rookie sir. But if you like to take something further more than just keeping an eye on her.” Clara glared at her boss.

Manny was a rookie at it. Ever since he held onto the family business he never had a relationship. He was embarrassed. He just felt like Everly would be the one to cure it. But it seems like Clara spilled something.

“By the way, Everly is married. Who’s the guy? You’re third brother, Flynn. But he hid his identity to Dave Williams. It’s sad huh?” Clara calmly said.

Manny was pissed and disappointed. No wonder why his little brother left home. He couldn’t stand it.

“You know we could use him, sir. Something like a spy in disguise.” she smirked.

“What do you mean by that Clara?” he asked curiously.

“Well, you see sir. Before I went to the company I heard that the first heir of the company declined the offer of being the next CEO, also known as your big brother. I really loved your brother but ever since he has gone missing after that conference. I had to trace the tracks. Seems likely he found a girl which is Everly.” Clara giggled and continued, “But I don’t think their 2 years of marriage is going smoothly.” she stopped.

“Don’t tell me you… actually had a relationship with him?!” He stood up on his chair.

She laughed, “Heavens no sir. I just made him act as it looked like one.”

“So you paid him..” he replied.

“Not as well, more likely a “friends with benefits” kind.” She said as she leaned on the chair.

“Enough about this. I want to know your plan, Clara Lim.” He said seriously.

“Ok then.” Clara replied.

(MEET UP)

“Hello, Dave, nice to meet you.” Clara pulls out her hand.

Dave ignores the hand and to a seat. He takes a sip of his coffee. He acts all serious.

“You know your acting is really good. You act all serious. But deep down you are scared. No wonder you hid in the shadows when your father offered you to be the new owner of the business.” she giggled and took a sip of her latte.

“Alright what the hell do you want from me?!” he asks growlingly.

“Calm your jets, Flynn.” she glares and continues while looking at Dave’s devastated face, “It’s funny that you hid your identity so well. Yet you’re still found. But I’m not here for your identity. I’m here to make a deal with you.” she swirls her latte.

“Hah! Bold of you that I’d make a deal with someone who is a creep.” Dave snickered.

“I know you wouldn’t accept it in the first place but let me change that.” She grinned.

Clara exposed the true feelings of Dave in his current relationship and explained to him. If Everly gives upon him, he is free. Everly will be with Manny and Dave will no longer hide because he will end up with Clara. Dave still didn’t agree to the deal. But Clara slipped in an envelope full of money. Then that’s where Dave changed his mind and shook hands. Dave is an actor and a spectator in disguise. Of course, Clara spilled out her true feelings to him. He was speechless. He got up and said his goodbyes, then left. Clara wasn’t upset or embarrassed. Why? Because Dave texted to meet up in the same place the next day. Everything she wanted is making one big show for her to start.

(CLARA’S PLAN)

“Ah~ Everything is going to plan.” I snickered as I looked at myself in the mirror.

Flynn will work and love me. Boss is going to follow the plan. While Everly will be trapped in my hands. Finally, I can get the fortune I have always wanted. A relationship, money, peasants, and most of all power.

SFX: Ding dong

“Oh! He’s here.” I opened the door to see him standing there, Flynn.

“I wanna discuss with you for a min.” He asks as he enters the apartment.

“Oh, sure.” I shut the door.

He sat on the couch and I offered him a glass of wine. He takes the glass and swirls it.

He said, “So, you like me? And I really have no details in the media. Haven’t revealed my face to the world. How did you even get my info?” he glared.

I clearly am no other girl who would just turn pink and stutter. I just gave him a direct answer, “I have connections.” I looked at him amused and sat on the chair.

“Connections? What do you mean? I clearly erased all of them.” he looked at me seriously. I didn’t really mean it. I never had connections to gather up the info. I always look at the media for it. I have never relied on anyone to gather such details on an important person.

“Well let me say that there are people who kept their position.” I smiled at him.

We had a couple of drinks. Turns out we both have a little bit in common. Heavy drinkers. Nightowls. Introverts. More importantly, we are desperate for power.

But, when he mentioned that I asked him, “You are desperate for power. So, why did you refuse to be the next in line CEO of the 2nd largest company in the Forbes list?” I was confused and thought of some of his reasons. Maybe he wasn’t ready? Or maybe there were circumstances that he didn’t like during the process of being CEO?

“I refuse the position because the power that holds it is too powerful. I just want something light.” He smiled and drank his wine.

I wasn’t really unamused by the answer knowing that it was every inheritor’s feelings. The pressure and responsibility that lies in that power are too heavy and impenetrable.

Few discussions later, he said his goodbyes and left. I never really thought that we also inserted the plan in the conversation. I haven’t felt happier than this. My show is about to begin.
