Growth

Before I knew it we were finishing our last year of middle school. Minsoo went to a prestigious school called Stewart academy. It was a school full of rich children. Most of which had grown up together. I was allowed to enter the school my last year of middle school after the school opened a scholarship program. By the time I was 15 and my whole school life revolved around homework and keeping up with my grades. I was still going over to the main building 4/5 a week. Mostly to take advantage of the tutors Minsoo had.

Minsoo had matured very quickly. No longer the spoiled bratty kid I grew up with he was more centered. He stood out a lot for his good looks which mirrored his mother’s looks. Standing at 5’11 at 15 years old with pale skin and long lashes. He was a cross between cha euwoo and Park Bo-gum. His dark black hair lay softly down to his forehead. He had light brown eyes and a small birthmark right underneath his right eyebrow. Although Minsoo was a slim guy he opted to take archery classes over violin and piano. He did taekwondo on the weekends and took up painting as therapy.

Before I entered Stewart academy I would take the bus. But since then I was forced to take the same car Minsoo took every morning.

“Aspen. Are your ready.” Minsoo looked my way. He was waiting to exit the car as we parked in front of the school.

“Sorry I wasn’t paying attention. I’m trying to cram last minute studies for a test today.”

“You’ll do okay. I don’t know anybody more loyal to her studies then you.” He patted my head as he smiled. His smile had transformed from a once sneaky smirk to a sweeter more delightful smile. His personality had made a 180 degree turn and I was quite delighted by that.

“Let me exit first since I’m late for an archery meeting. I’ll see you after school. Don’t forget I’m thinking of having sushi today. I know that’s your favorite.” Minsoo stretched for the door and made his way towards the school building.

As he walked a couple of girls passed by to greet him while some were too shy to talk to him. I quickly exited and headed to my class. This was my second week in this school and I quite frankly didn’t like it. Student were staring at me way more than usual. While I was used to getting looked at by every korean citizen. This was very different. It seemed more like jealousy as the first week of school I entered the school with Minsoo. I was even asked if I was dating him by a couple of girls in my class. Half the girls at school would stare at me in disgust while the other half would stare with anger and jealousy. Even in the bathroom I would overhear some students wonder why I was sticking Minsoo.

I was essentially blacklisted and treated way worse then the average student. The girls didn’t want to associate with me and the boys were too proud and arrogant to want to stick with a scholarship student. Even scholarship students wouldn’t get close to me because I looked quite different. I often found myself taking lunch in the library. Minsoo offered to change his lunch schedule if I hadn’t made friends yet but I lied and told him I had made friends with some girls in my class. I worried he’d look at me as incompetent so I did my best to hide it.

I would often go to his archery games whenever he asked but they made me uncomfortable with how many girls that came to cheer for him. He’d wave at me from time to time and that made the girls even more annoyed.

“Hey why dont u join my art club” Minsoo spoke up as he finished eating. We had taken a quick sushi break from studies. Minsoo’s parents wouldn’t get home until 3am. With time they rarely ever saw Minsoo as their schedules seemed to get even more hectic. We never ate at his dining room table tho. The head maid had once told me not to sit there so I did my best to avoid it.

“I don’t know if I want to. I want to have time to spare for my studies” I replied back.

“I knew you’d say that” he spoke up as he got up to grab his bag.

“Then why did you ask..”

“Because I wanted to see if you’d surprise me with a different answer. Don’t you think spending more time with me would be better.”
