The interrogation

The cold, dark cage seemed to close in around Kael, the metal bars biting into his skin like ice. He sat in silence, his mind racing with thoughts of escape. The guards had taken him to a dimly lit room, the air thick with the smell of smoke and sweat. A figure in the shadows began to question him, their voice low and menacing.

"What were you doing in the abandoned warehouse?" the figure asked, their words dripping with malice.

Kael hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. He glanced around the room, taking in the peeling paint and rusty pipes. A single flickering light overhead cast eerie shadows on the walls. He could hear the distant hum of machinery and the muffled voices of guards patrolling the corridors.

The figure leaned forward, their face still hidden in the shadows. "Let me tell you something, Kael," they said, their voice dripping with sarcasm. "We know all about your little group. We know about the others. And if you cooperate, we might let them go."

Kael's heart skipped a beat. The others! What had happened to them? Were they okay? He tried to keep his expression neutral, but his mind was racing with questions.

The figure leaned back in their chair, a sly smile spreading across their face. "This isn't over," they said, before turning and walking out of the room.

Kael was left alone, his mind racing with thoughts of escape and rescue. He knew he had to think fast, come up with a plan to get out of this place. But his mind was a blank.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a figure slipped in. It was Lyra, one of the members of his group. She was dressed in a guard's uniform, and she looked like she meant business.

"Kael, come on!" she whispered, unlocking the cage. "We have to get out of here, now!"

Kael didn't need to be told twice. He followed Lyra out of the room, his heart pounding with excitement and fear. They moved quickly through the corridors, avoiding guards and security cameras.

As they walked, Lyra filled Kael in on what had happened. "We were ambushed," she said, her voice low and urgent. "I managed to escape and get to the extraction point. But they were waiting for us. I had to improvise and get into this uniform to get to you."

Kael nodded, his mind racing with questions. "What about the others?" he asked.

Lyra's expression was grim. "I don't know. I haven't seen them. But we have to assume the worst."

Kael's jaw clenched. He knew they had to keep moving. They couldn't stay in one place for too long.

As they turned a corner, they heard the sound of footsteps behind them. Lyra grabbed Kael's arm, pulling him into a nearby alcove.

"Shh," she whispered. "Guards."

They waited in silence, holding their breath as the guards passed by. Kael could feel Lyra's heart beating rapidly against his arm. He knew she was scared, but she wasn't letting it get the best of her.

When the guards were out of sight, Lyra nodded. "Let's go," she whispered.

They continued on, moving stealthily through the corridors. Kael knew they had to find a way out of the facility, and fast. They couldn't stay hidden forever.

As they turned another corner, Kael caught sight of a sign. "Emergency Exit" it read. He nodded at Lyra, and they quickened their pace.

They burst through the door, the bright sunlight momentarily blinding them. Kael blinked, his eyes adjusting to the light. They were outside, and they were free.

But Kael knew their freedom wouldn't last long. They had to find the others, and they had to get out of there before the guards sounded the alarm.

"Let's move," Kael said, his voice low and urgent. "We have to find the others."

Lyra nodded, and together they set off across the deserted landscape.
