Chapter — The Rain That Started It All
The sky was gray, the air soft with drizzle. Raindrops shimmered on the road like a thousand tiny diamonds. Ana and King stood at the edge of the street, the faint sound of thunder humming somewhere far away.
The king glanced at her hand — small, delicate, and close enough to touch. How can I even hold her hand? he thought. If I touch her first, she might think badly of me. What if she scolds me?
He looked away, pretending to adjust his sleeve.
Then, without warning, he felt something warm slip into his palm.
Ana had held his hand.
King froze. The world around him blurred for a moment — just the rain, her hand, and the rush in his chest. Oh my God… she’s holding my hand. Her hand is so soft. What should I even say now?
“Uh… Ana,” he finally whispered.
Ana’s voice trembled, though she smiled to hide it. “King, please don’t misunderstand. I… I just held your hand because… um… we’re friends, right?”
King chuckled softly, hiding how fast his heart was beating. “It’s okay, Ana. No problem.”
Ana looked away, biting her lip. Oh no… what am I even saying?
The drizzle turned into a steady rain.
“King,” she said, looking up at the sky, “it’s raining.”
He followed her gaze. Raindrops glistened on her hair, running down her cheek.
“I have an umbrella,” Ana said shyly, “but it’s only one. Let’s share it.”
King blinked, trying not to smile. Me and Ana… sharing one umbrella?
Ana opened it, stepping a little closer. Wow… it’s raining, and I’m sharing an umbrella with him. This is so romantic…
King took the handle from her gently. “Let me hold it,” he said.
Their fingers brushed — a brief, electric touch.
Ana felt her heart flutter. What is this strange feeling? Why is it so warm?
The rain grew heavier. “Ana, the rain’s too strong,” King said. “Let’s stand under that tree for a while.”
“Okay,” she said softly.
They ran together, laughing, water splashing at their feet. When they stopped beneath the tree, their clothes were damp, their breaths quick.
“Come closer, Ana,” King said. “Otherwise you’ll still get wet.”
She blinked. Closer? We’re already barely thirty centimeters apart!
Still, she stepped closer — and this time, her hand brushed against his hip.
King felt a shiver run through him. Her hand… it’s on my hip. God, I’m feeling so hot…
Ana swallowed hard. I’m touching him… it feels so good, but why am I feeling so hot?
King looked down at her, his eyes soft but intense. She looks so beautiful like this… I want to hug her. Just once.
“Ana…” he murmured.
Her heart jumped. Why is he looking at me like that? He looks so… handsome. I can’t… I can’t look away.
“Ana, look at me,” he whispered. “Just look at me.”
She hesitated, then slowly lifted her gaze. His eyes met hers — deep, steady, and full of something unspoken.
For a few seconds, there was only silence — and the sound of the rain around them.
Then King gently took her hand again.
Ana’s heart raced. What is he trying to do? This isn’t the right time… I need to stop this.
“King, wait,” she said softly. “The rain isn’t that heavy anymore. I’ll go first. You can use the umbrella.”
King blinked, his moment slipping away. She’s leaving? I missed my chance…
“Okay, Ana,” he said finally. “But what if you catch a cold?”
She smiled, brushing her hair aside. “Don’t worry about me, King. I’ll be fine.”
They started walking again.
“King, we’ve reached, but we still need to walk a few meters,” Ana said.
“Alright,” he replied.
Just then, an old woman called out to them from the side of the street. “Son, daughter, could you help me? I need some money.”
Without hesitation, King reached into his pocket and gave her what she asked.
The old woman smiled warmly. “You two are such a beautiful couple,” she said. “You’ll marry each other soon, I can see it.”
King chuckled softly, but Ana’s cheeks turned pink.
When they finally reached their destination, Ana couldn’t stop giggling.
“Why are you laughing?” King asked.
“That aunty said you’re going to marry me,” Ana said, shaking her head. “I’m laughing because— you and me? What a joke.”
But deep inside, her heart whispered something else — I wish it could be true.
They looked around; the place was filled with couples holding hands, smiling, lost in their own worlds.
Ana turned to him playfully. “Okay, King. For today… I’m your girlfriend. Let’s go on a date.”
King smiled, his heart beating faster. The rain had stopped — but for both of them, something else had just begun.
