Not Just Strangers...?

It was the most affectionate look I had seen of him.

“Does he like Mara?” I whispered.

“Is there something wrong, Atlisia?” my manager and bodyguard, Beill asked.

I shook my head and smiled.

The door opened. The doctor came with results.

“You seem to be doing fine these days. But we still need to monitor you for a while. The recommendation letter that I gave you was worth it. Please keep this up and avoid stressful things.” He said as he looked at the results.

Beill sighed in relief.

“Your friend, Dr. Fiel helped me abroad. I'm really thankful for your recommendation.” I said while smiling back at him.

He nodded.

...

“You heard him. No stressful things. You decided to stay here for a few months, so I'm expecting you to relax and take it easy while having a great vacation.” Beill said.

“Yes...I heard him. I told you it's fine.” I answered.

Her phone rang...

We glanced at each other and nodded.

I continued walking and went straight to the elevator.

But what welcomed me was Devin and Mara arguing. As soon as they saw me, they stopped.

I got curious, so I decided to enter the elevator.

They became silent.

The elevator was filled with awkwardness.

Mara turned to me, she looked a bit nervous, “hello Atlisia! What brings you to the hospital?”

“Some check up. I can't risk being sick. What about you, Mara? Are you feeling ill?” I asked.

“No...I'm just visiting someone. Someone important...”, she answered.

She looked like she was telling the truth, but there were some hidden parts of it.

...

The three of us got out of the hospital at the same time. Mara told me that she needs to meet my brother, so she left first.

“Should I escort you home?” Devin said while bowing.

I glanced at him.

“No need. You're not a butler, so stop asking things like that.” I told him and left for the car.

I went inside and tried to take a peek at him. He was there...

Standing and looking at the fading figure of Mara.

...

“The call got longer than I had anticipated. Are you feeling okay?” Beill asked as she put her seatbelt.

“Yes...I'm fine...probably...”, I mumbled.

Beill was confused and looked at me through the mirror. I sensed her gaze and met her eyes.

I sighed.

“Beill...can you do me a favor?” I said.

Beill nodded and asked, “what is it?”

“Investigate Mara Blake...I want to know everything.” I said while looking outside the window.

“Hmmm...why ask me? You always go to Devin for that kind of thing...”, Beill said.

The image of Devin glancing at Mara came back to me.

That was not strangers. It was more than that. And I have a feeling that he wouldn't give me a proper report if I asked him.

I rested my head on the window, “not him, he won't be able to do it...he probably can't...”, I answered. Beill was quiet but she nodded.
