Crimson Moon

Crimson Moon

Bound to the Night

--

The wind howled as the moon hung low and heavy in the night sky, a pale crimson glow casting shadows across the tall iron gates of Rosenfell Academy — a prestigious school nestled deep within a forgotten forest.

You stepped out of the car, suitcase in hand, heart pounding. The air was cold, unnaturally cold. You pulled your coat tighter around your shoulders and stared up at the towering gothic buildings.

This place didn’t feel normal.

And maybe, just maybe… neither were you.

You were different. You always felt like you didn’t belong — haunted by strange dreams, whispers in your ears when you were alone, and that recurring nightmare: a silver-haired boy with blood on his hands and sorrow in his eyes.

You shook the thought away. It was just a dream… right?

---

Inside the academy, the halls were silent and grand — chandeliers casting dancing lights across old portraits. You could feel the eyes watching you. Something ancient.

“Yumi Sakamaki?” a woman called. “You’ll be in the North Wing. Class 3-A.”

The moment you stepped into your dorm room, a chill swept through. You dropped your bag. That’s when you saw it…

A silver rose, lying on your pillow.

You picked it up slowly. It was ice-cold.

Then—

CRACK.

The mirror beside your bed shattered.

You gasped. A voice came from the shadows.

> “You shouldn’t be here.”

You turned around fast.

He stood by the window — tall, pale, silver hair like moonlight, and red eyes that glowed in the dark.

You couldn’t move. You couldn’t breathe.

> “You’re the one from my dream,” you whispered.

He frowned. “Dream?”

> “You… killed me.”

He looked startled — not angry. Almost… sad.

> “I tried to save you.”

He stepped closer, and your heart stopped.

> “Who are you?” you asked.

> “My name is Subaru Sakamaki. And if you stay here… you’ll die."

The silence after his words felt heavy — like the air was holding its breath.

> “You’ll die if you stay.”

The crimson moonlight lit only half his face, casting deep shadows under his silver hair. You took a step back, but your feet wouldn’t move far. You couldn’t tell if it was fear… or curiosity.

> “Then why did you leave the rose?”

You held it up. It shimmered unnaturally.

Subaru’s eyes widened for a second. “You touched it?”

> “Of course I did. It was in my room!”

He growled under his breath. “Idiot. That rose was supposed to warn me—not you.”

> “Warn you?”

He turned his face away, gripping the windowsill hard enough that cracks split the wood beneath his hands.

> “I thought I buried that memory...”

You felt a sudden rush of heat behind your eyes—images, flashes of another world. Blood. Fire. A girl in white. And a scream that sounded like your own.

---

That night, sleep never came. You kept hearing footsteps in the hallway… and whispers behind the door.

The next morning at Rosenfell was worse.

As you walked to class, students stared. Some of their eyes were too pale, too sharp. One girl leaned in and whispered as you passed:

> “She’s the human Subaru touched... is she marked?”

---

In Class 3-A, you took a seat near the window. Your hand still tingled from the rose.

The teacher hadn’t arrived yet, but Subaru was already there — alone in the back.

He didn't look at you.

You gathered your courage.

> “Are you just going to ignore me now?”

No response.

> “You show up in my room, threaten me, give me ghost-roses, and now act like I don’t exist?”

He looked up then, slowly.

> “You shouldn’t want me to exist. People who get close to me…”

His voice cracked a little, then he closed his eyes.

> “They suffer.”

Your heart stung. “Then maybe I want to suffer.”

His chair scraped as he stood. He walked to you, eyes burning.

> “Don’t say that,” he said softly. “You don’t know what I’ve done.”

You stood too, staring him down.

> “Then tell me.”

Suddenly, the classroom door slammed open.

A new boy entered. Tall. Blonde. Smiling with fangs just visible.

> “Subaru~ You're being awfully friendly today. Who’s the little human girl?”

The room froze.

> “Stay away from her, Ayato,” Subaru growled.

The new boy smirked and looked at you.

> “Well well… a human in the Night Class. This is going to be fun.”
