"Evan, wake up! Even if your monthly exams are over, did you forget that you planned to go on a trip with your friends?"
Mom’s one hand was shaking me while the other was turning off the fan and AC.
"Mom, I’m awake, so please close the window sunlight is so annoying" I said, sitting up with a yawn, rubbing my eyes. Still, she opened the windows anyway.
"I’m awake, aren’t I, Mom?"
"I don’t want to hear anything—just take a bath and come have breakfast."
She left the room after saying that. A few minutes later, I heard the sound of her and Dad laughing. I was glad my parents were happy. And I was happy too—I had passed the college entrance exam and got admitted to the biggest university in another city.
It was my dream university. My high school friends and I had decided that once we all passed, we would go on a trip to an island for two whole weeks. This trip was going to be damn fun.
I stepped down from the bed, stretched a little, and rushed into the bathroom. After taking a bath, I ate breakfast and started packing my luggage. Mom and Dad helped me too—Dad was on leave today to spend time with Mom, obviously.
Once I finished packing, I got a message in our group chat.
[Friend 1: Umm, guys… I know we planned to go on this trip after passing the exam, but my girlfriend says she wants just the two of us to go alone… so I’ll go with you next time.]
My heart broke into pieces. He was the one who organized all the tickets and everything, and now I was finding out he was ditching us just because of his girlfriend. What a total bastard.
"What happened, Evan?" Mom asked. She must have read my expression and guessed something was wrong.
"You know my friend—the one who organized this trip? He’s going with his girlfriend instead, so he told us we’ll go next time," I told her.
She and Dad exchanged glances after hearing me.
"Then why don’t you go on a solo trip to another island?" Dad suggested.
And my mood instantly lit up—because yes, I had never thought of going on a solo trip before. This could be fun, right?
"Yes! Great idea, Dad. I’ll go on a solo trip!"
Mom was worried because I was very thin, unlike other boys. No matter how much I tried going to the gym, it seemed impossible for me to gain muscle. My height was short too, but Dad made her agree, saying, "He’s a man—men don’t need to worry about anything at all."
I searched online for a nice island and found one—Blue Heaven Island. In the pictures, the water there shone like blue crystal at night. I even booked a small villa for myself, because I was going to stay there for more than a week and enjoy myself to the fullest.
