...A Few Days Later...
It was the day of her grandmother’s funeral.
After the ceremony ended, neighbors and guests quietly left. Only Yansen, Lucy, Alina, and Amon remained.
Yomein didn’t say anything to them. But her eyes burned with anger.
Lucy walked toward her and said,
“Yomein, come with us. We’re here to take you home.”
Yomein stared at her coldly and replied,
“I’m not going anywhere. Please… all of you, go back to your house.”
“But Yomein,” Lucy insisted, “we’re your family. Who will you stay with here? What will you do all alone?”
Yomein responded firmly,
“When Grandma was alive, you never came here. Why now?”
Lucy said, “But we are your family, Yomein. If not us, then who else will come?”
Yomein stood silently, listening to their words.
Then Lucy added, “By the way, Yomein, if you’re not going to live with us, what are you planning to do with the property papers?”
Yomein snapped back, “Who are you to take the property? And who said I will come with you?”
Alina stepped forward and slapped Yomein across the face.
“So, you won’t give us the property?” she shouted. “Then we’ll snatch it. Right, Mom?”
Lucy nodded, “Yes, you’re right.”
Then she turned to Amon and said,
“Amon, bring the property papers.”
Amon stared coldly at Yomein, then silently handed the papers to Lucy.
Lucy said calmly,
“Here. Sign these papers and we’ll let you go.”
“I won’t sign them,” Yomein said.
Lucy’s voice turned sharp. “I’ll make you. This is the last time I’m asking. Sign the papers!”
Yomein was scared, remembering her grandmother’s words. Her heart trembled.
Lucy turned to Alina, “Don’t hit her face. Hit anywhere else—but keep going until she signs.”
Yomein was terrified.
Alina stepped toward her.
Yomein backed away.
Alina tried to slap her, but Yomein caught her hand.
Her hands were trembling, and she quickly let go.
“You dare touch me?” Alina snapped.
Yansen quietly walked away.
Amon remained silently watching.
Lucy also left the room and sat in another. Amon followed.
Alina, alone now, pulled a belt from her bag.
She walked slowly toward Yomein.
Yomein was shaking. She stumbled and fell.
She tried to protect herself, but Alina beat her mercilessly.
Blood oozed from Yomein’s back. Belt marks carved her skin.
She lay on the floor, unconscious.
Alina grabbed her hair, lifted her face, and forced her hand to sign the papers.
Laughing, Alina called out,
“Mom! Come see, I got her to sign!”
She sat down on the sofa, smiling, while Yomein lay on the ground in blood.
Lucy and Amon entered the hall. Amon looked silently at Yomein.
Lucy walked over, put her foot on Yomein’s back, and said,
“You have until tomorrow morning to get out of here. Or else, we’ll throw you out ourselves. I don’t want to see your face anymore.”
She turned and walked away.
Lucy, Alina, and Amon left the house… but Amon came back.
