When her world fells apart

Yomein looked at her, tears streaming down her face. She nodded and said she would live — live for as long as she could. She promised she’d try to stay alive and happy.

Her grandmother gently smiled and said,

“You will get your share of happiness one day, my child. Just wait for the right time. Everything will be fine, even if I’m not there beside you. One day, someone will come who will give you all the joy you deserve. One day, everything will change... and all your pain will be washed away.”

Yomein rested her head in her grandmother’s lap, quietly listening. Her grandma ran her fingers through her hair and said softly,

“When I die, don’t cry for me. If you do, I’ll cry too — and I won’t find peace in heaven.”

That day went on peacefully.

They talked, laughed, ate dinner together and went to sleep, happy and calm.

The Next Morning

Yomein woke up early. She finished all the chores and realized her grandma still hadn’t woken up.

She went into the room and saw her grandmother still asleep.

“She must be tired. I’ll let her sleep a little longer,” Yomein thought, and returned to the kitchen.

She cooked breakfast and completed other tasks. But it was already 9 AM, and her grandma still hadn’t woken up.

“She’s been acting tired lately… maybe I should take the breakfast to her directly.”

She took the food to the room and said sweetly,

“Today isn’t Sunday, nor is it a holiday… so why aren’t you waking up?”

Smiling, she continued,

“Grandma, you’re teasing me, aren’t you? Come on now, wake up. Enough pretending!”

She placed the food on the table and said jokingly,

“Don’t blame me later and say, ‘Yomein scolds me so much. I think she’s my grandma!’”

She laughed while mimicking her grandma’s voice.

But there was no response.

She said again, “Okay then, I’ll start eating, I’m hungry…”

But her tone turned more serious.

“Grandma… wake up. Please don’t act anymore. I don’t like this acting.”

Suddenly, anxious thoughts started flooding her mind.

Scared, she got up from the chair and gently placed her hand on her grandmother’s neck.

There was no breath.

Yomein froze. Her heart dropped.

She panicked, crying and screaming, as she quickly dialed the doctor. Her tears wouldn’t stop. Her thoughts scattered. She couldn’t believe this was happening.

Within some time, the doctor arrived.

Yomein, barely able to walk, led him to her grandma’s room.

She didn’t know what she was doing anymore.

Everything was a blur.

The doctor checked and then looked at her with quiet sympathy.

“You’re too late… she’s gone.”

Yomein fell to the ground, speechless.

No tears came. No words. Just silence.

The doctor said softly,

“Please… take care of yourself.”

But Yomein couldn’t process anything.

She just looked at her grandmother and thought:

“Do I have to live alone from now on?”

“Was it necessary for me to grow up like this?”

“Why did everything end so soon?”

“Don’t I deserve happiness too?”

She dropped to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Screaming through her tears, she cried:

“You can’t stop me from crying now!”

“You left me… just like mom did…”

Yomein’s whole world shattered in a single moment.

Now, there was no one left… no one to live for anymore.
