London, 6:47 AM – Local Train, Sole Street

The city was already buzzing, indifferent to the stories it carried. Aayan Malhotra stood near the door, one hand gripping the overhead rod, the other holding a black notebook close to his chest. His eyes scanned the stations flashing past, but his mind was somewhere else and an unfamiliar restlessness he couldn’t name.

Across the compartment, Ishani Kapadia sat by the window, headphones in, notebooks on her lap. Her charcoal pencil danced across the page, giving form to something that felt like a memory. She had been drawing the same face over and over again for weeks—a man with intense eyes, half-turned as if looking back at her. She had never seen him in real life.

Until now.

As the train slowed at Marine Lines, Aayan shifted slightly, and Ishani's gaze lifted. For a split second, their eyes met.

She froze. So did he.

But before either of them could move, the train doors opened, and a sea of commuters pushed and poured in. Aayan stepped off.

Ishani didn’t even have time to react. By the time she reached the door, he was gone—vanished into the crowd like a scene she had imagined.

She clutched her notebook tighter.

"Who are you?" she whispered.

Elsewhere, Aayan stood by the edge of the platform, his chest strangely tight.

He didn’t know why. He didn’t know her.

And yet, something inside him murmured:

You’ve met her before.

They met each other without knowing that they are the one who they like and wants to meet.

They both went towards their work with question in their minds.

8:13 AM – University Of London

Ishani still holding the notebook. The drawing—the man she saw on the train—stared back at her from the page. She had drawn this face weeks before, without knowing who he was.

Now she knew.

He was real.

She flipped through older pages, her breath catching. His face wasn’t just in one sketch. It was scattered across her work—sometimes faint, sometimes vivid. In one, he stood under a tree. In another, he was holding her hand. And in the oldest one of all… he was walking away.

She closed her eyes, trying to shake the sensation that clung to her skin:

Like she had missed something.

Like something had just slipped away.

Again.

Meanwhile – Aayan's Office, University of London

Aayan sat in front of his computer screen, but his mind was still on the train. On her.

He hadn’t told anyone, not even his online best friend Ishani whom he share everything, but for the past few months, he had been dreaming of someone. A woman with ink-stained fingers and a voice he couldn’t quite hear. Every time he got close to seeing her face, he’d wake up.

But now… he had seen her.

Without realizing it, he’d drawn her many times.

By coincidence—or something far older—both Aayan and Ishani found themselves drawn to the same quiet corner of University that afternoon.

Ishani had decided to clear her mind by sitting in a park.

Aayan had come on a colleague insistence, despite the chaos of work.

As he turned a corner in the park, he stopped.

It was her.

A woman in a red dupatta, standing by the park with her head phones on and listening music.

He stepped closer.

Their eyes met again.

Not in a train. Not in a dream.

This time, they stood still.

No rush. No crowd. No distractions.

Only two people.

And something ancient moving between them.
