When Life Become Cruel

Aayan Malhotra a 25 years old professor sat by the hospital window, gazing at the New York skyline — a city alive with ambition, noise, and endless chaos. But for him, it was just a distant blur. His love of his life was no more, and he hadn't eaten properly in days.

His apartment now felt like a cold, lifeless cell. No laughter. No peace. Just silence, broken by the ticking clock and the occasional ding of work emails — emails he no longer had the strength to open.

Far away from his hometown in Jaipur, he had once chased dreams with fire in his chest. Now, everything felt pointless.

He hadn’t called his mother in days — what would he even say?

That he was breaking down slowly? That nothing made sense anymore?

He stared at his reflection in the dark window.

The boy who once left home to make something of himself was now a man lost in a crowd — successful on paper, but drowning inside.

Meanwhile, in a suffocating house in Ishani Kapadia a 20 years old woke up to the same routine — heavy eyes, forced smiles, and that growing ache in her chest that she didn’t know how to silence.

She hadn’t told her mother about the other letters — rejections from three more universities.

At home, every conversation felt like an interrogation.

"When will you do something proper?"

"How long will you sit at home?"

"Girls your age are already settled..."

Even meals felt like burdened silence.

Her home — once her safe space — now felt like a cage. Every corner reminded her of the life she almost had. The one she lost.

She longed for space, for a room of her own thoughts, for quiet that wasn’t painful. But there was no escape.

Not yet.

One lived far from home, in a city that never paused for anyone.

The other lived at home, but peace had long since moved out.
