Chapter 5: After the Meeting

As the dinner meeting came to a close, Li Mei felt a mix of emotions. She was still trying to process her initial impression of Wang Chen, and she couldn't help but wonder what he thought of her. She had been prepared to dislike him, but there was something about him that intrigued her.

As they left the restaurant, Li Mei's parents were beaming with satisfaction. "That went well, don't you think?" her mother asked, turning to her.

Li Mei nodded, trying to appear enthusiastic. "Yes, it seemed like a nice meeting."

Her father smiled. "We'll finalize the wedding plans soon. We're thinking of having it in a few months."

Li Mei's heart skipped a beat. A few months? That was sooner than she had expected. She felt a pang of uncertainty, wondering if she was ready for this. She had always known that her parents wanted her to marry well, but she had never thought it would happen so quickly.

As they walked home, Li Mei's mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Wang Chen. She couldn't help but wonder what he was like beyond his polished exterior. Was he kind and gentle, or was he as ruthless in his personal life as he was in business? She remembered the way he had looked at her during the meeting, his piercing eyes seeming to see right through her. It was both unnerving and intriguing.

When they arrived home, Li Mei's mother turned to her. "Why don't you invite Wang Chen out for coffee or something? Get to know him better before the wedding."

Li Mei's eyes widened. That was a good idea. Maybe getting to know Wang Chen better would help her figure out if they could make this arranged marriage work. She pulled out her phone and sent Wang Chen a text. "Hey, would you like to grab coffee sometime this week? I'd love to get to know you better."

As she hit send, Li Mei felt a sense of trepidation. What would Wang Chen say? Would he agree to meet her, or would he brush her off? She waited anxiously for his response, her mind racing with possibilities.

The minutes ticked by, and Li Mei found herself checking her phone every few minutes. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, her phone buzzed. Wang Chen had responded.

"Yes, I'd like that. How about tomorrow afternoon?" his text read.

Li Mei's heart skipped a beat. He had agreed to meet her. Now all she had to do was figure out what to wear and what to say. She felt a mix of excitement and nerves as she thought about their upcoming meeting. What would Wang Chen be like in person? Would they have anything in common?

As she lay in bed that night, Li Mei couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Would she and Wang Chen be able to make their arranged marriage work, or would they struggle to find common ground? Only time would tell.
