Chapter 4: A Glimpse of Wang Chen
Li Mei's research on Wang Chen had left her with more questions than answers. She had seen photos of him online, and he seemed handsome and confident. But she couldn't help but wonder what lay beneath his polished exterior.
As she sat in her dorm room, staring at her laptop screen, Zhang Wei walked in and plopped down beside her. "Hey, Mei! What's up?" he asked, noticing the look of concentration on her face.
Li Mei sighed and closed her laptop. "I'm trying to learn more about Wang Chen," she said, frustration evident in her voice.
Zhang Wei raised an eyebrow. "The guy your parents want you to marry?" he asked, his tone incredulous.
Li Mei nodded. "Yeah, that's the one. I just want to know more about him before we meet."
Zhang Wei leaned back against the pillows. "Well, from what I've heard, he's a bit of a mystery. People say he's ruthless in business, but no one really knows much about his personal life."
Li Mei's eyes widened. "That's exactly what I've found online. But I want to know more."
Just then, Li Mei's phone buzzed. It was her mother, calling to confirm their meeting with the Wang family. "Li Mei, we're meeting the Wangs for dinner tonight at 7 pm," her mother said, her voice cheerful.
Li Mei's heart skipped a beat. She had been dreading this meeting, but now she was curious. "Okay, I'll be there," she said, trying to sound calm.
As she hung up the phone, Zhang Wei turned to her. "You okay? You seem a bit nervous," he said, his brow furrowed with concern.
Li Mei took a deep breath. "I'm fine. I just don't know what to expect," she admitted.
Zhang Wei smiled. "You'll be great, Mei. Just be yourself and see how it goes."
Li Mei nodded, feeling a sense of determination. She would meet Wang Chen and see if there was any chance of them getting along. But she wouldn't let her parents' expectations dictate her future. She would make her own decisions, no matter what.
At 7 pm sharp, Li Mei and her parents arrived at the restaurant where they would be meeting the Wang family. As they walked in, Li Mei's eyes scanned the room, searching for a glimpse of Wang Chen.
And then she saw him. He was standing by the window, his eyes fixed on her as she approached. Li Mei felt a jolt of surprise. He was even more handsome than she had expected, with piercing eyes and a chiseled jawline.
But as their eyes met, Li Mei felt a spark of tension. Wang Chen's gaze was intense, almost challenging. She wondered what he was thinking, and whether they would ever be able to find common ground.
The dinner meeting was a formal affair, with both families making polite conversation and discussing the upcoming wedding. Li Mei played along, trying to be gracious and respectful. But she couldn't help but steal glances at Wang Chen, trying to read his expression.
As the evening drew to a close, Li Mei's parents stood up, smiling. "We're glad we could meet and discuss the details," her mother said, her voice warm.
Wang Chen nodded, his eyes never leaving Li Mei's face. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Li Mei," he said, his voice low and smooth.
Li Mei felt a shiver run down her spine. There was something about Wang Chen that intrigued her, something that made her want to know more about him. She wondered if they could ever find a way to make their arranged marriage work.
