Episode 4

Early morning, I received a message from Stella. “All the best honey.. hope you meet your Prince charming today.”

All I did was, blush and only blush.

Soon I got ready and left for my job.

I reached metro station and was waiting for my train. I heard someone call my name, as I turned back. It was him, David.

“Hey Jane, are you avoiding me?” he questioned.

“No.. not at all. Why would I do that.” I said.

“Ahh.. then that’s fine. I really thought your angry.”

“David!”

“Yesss…” he replied with a smile, as if he knew, what I was going to ask.

“Are you following me by any chance.” I questioned.

“What!! No, why do you ask so..”

“I never saw you here before, so just got a doubt if u were following me.”

“Hahaha… No, actually am going for an interview.”

“ Really?? All the best.” I wished him.

Just then our train arrived and we got in. We reached our station and departed for our work.

At the office, as I reached. I found Robert waiting for me. There was no one else, just him. I felt I should not disturb.. so I was above to leave. When..

“Hey Jane, wait…” he asked.

“I’m really sorry Robert, but I didn’t knew you were here.”

“Relax.. I asked everyone to go down to cafeteria as I have some work here.” Robert explained.

“Then I must leave too.. see you later.” I replied and was above to leave.

“Jane! I have some work with you. I mean, can I have a word with you.” He requested.

“Sure, why not..” I agreed.

He got close to me and asked me, if I was free this evening.

“Jane, are you free this evening.”

‘Not exactly, but if anything urgent.. I can wait for you.” I told him.

“Ok great!. So I will pick you after work.”

“ Fine..” I replied.

Soon he walked out and I got settled at my desk, after few minutes everyone else arrived. There was this lady named Katrine, who worked with me and we slowly grew a bond of friendship. She was sweet and took good care of me.

“Hey Jane! How are you?” Katrine inquired.

“ Am fine Katrine, how are you? “

“Fine sweetie, did you know, boss was here at our office room and he asked us to vacate this room. Seems like he had something to check upon.” Katrine told.

“Hmmm.. may be.” I did not tell her about the incident, that he was here to ask me out. I did not want anyone to take it in a wrong way.

As I was done with my work, I reached down. I saw him waiting for me. I went up to him and he led me towards his car. We got in and he signalled his driver to drive.

“ Where are we going.. by the way?”

“ You’ll see.. once we reach there.”

Rest of our journey we did not speak a word. All I did was, seeing outside the window.. the lights outside the window were going in a opposite direction. We had a drive of half an hour. After which, the car stopped at a very calm place.. it was very dark, hardly could see the ground, but there I could feel the cold Breeze. As we got down, the lights were switched on and what I saw was a sea shore. It was decorated so beautifully with full of lights and flowers. There was a table and pair of chairs, as if it was decorated for some couple for their date tonight. As I was busy admiring the view, Robert asked for my hand and escorted me towards the same spot..

“Jane, lets go.” He said.

We reached the table and he pulled a chair for me to sit. And he sat opposite to me.

“ Robert.. what is all this about?” I asked in a confusion. Just then he got up from his place, came near me and was down on his knees.

“ Jane, since the day I met you.. you are driving me crazy. You made me feel like... I never felt before.”

“But….”

“Don’t say a word, please listen to me first.

I like it when you are around. It makes me feel special, and that’s how I realised.. am in love with you Jane.” He confessed.

“I love you a lot Jane. Will you give me the honour to be your life partner.”

I was shocked, I did not know what to say or do. I was happy but I never got any such feeling towards him. I agree he is handsome but I never felt like love or anything.

“ Robert, I really appreciate for everything you did. But am really not sure about my feelings. I never felt anything as such.” I tried explaining.

“ Not even once?” he asked.

“Robert, you are my boss. How could I put such an eye on you. I always treated you as a good friend, nothing more.”

“ So it means it’s a no?” he asked hoping I would say something positive.

“I like you as a friend, but never got any other feeling. How do I answer then.”

“Hahaha… it's ok Jane, after all it's not your fault. But just in case you feel anything towards me, please do let me know. May be then I can try my luck again.”

“Am really sorry Robert, I did not wanted to turn you down like this.” I felt sorry for him.

“Never mind, lets say cheers to our friendship then, hope I'll be able to make you fall for me someday soon.”

I smiled as I did not wanted to hurt him anymore. I knew how hurt he felt, but I was helpless as well, because I never had such feelings towards him.

We had our dinner just because, he asked me to have a dinner with him at least.

“Robert, it's getting late.. could you drive me back.” I requested.

“Sure, lets go.”

We came back and he dropped me home. After which he bid good-bye and I came back home.

I called Stella and told her everything that happened. She was happy as her doubt was crystal clear, but then she push a question that shook me completely.

“So Jane, whom does your heart belongs to?” she questioned.

“What do you mean?”

“Baby, it's clear that you did not feel anything when he came close to you or even when he proposed. Right!!”

“Yeah.!! So?”

“But you felt something strange when David got close to you, am I right.” She smiled as she asked this.

I could feel her slight smiling tone, which made me feel that she is going to trap me with her questions.

“Hmmm… Yes, so what now.”

“Baby, you rejected Robert because you have someone else in your heart.” She said.

“What do you mean, Stella?”

I knew somewhere deep in my heart, I had generated a feeling towards David, but was not sure about it. After Stella put those questions in front, I could not resist but just gave a deep thought. Just then she gave her final statement.

“Dumbo… You have feelings for David and not Robert, so you could easily reject him.”

“Stella, you are gone mad. Am dropping, you need rest I think.” Telling so I hung up the call.

Now, what I was confused about is.. if I really liked David or not. I spend the whole night thinking about both the men and I hardly slept. Just turning from one side to other on my bed was only thing I did except sleeping.

Though, I did not have any feeling for Robert but I felt sorry for him, he is really a nice guy and I did not wanted to hurt his feelings. I didn’t wanted to cheat him as I don't love him.

I decided to maintain my gap... so that he could try to forget me and move on.
