The Lonely Man and a Stray Girl
EPISODE 2: New Start
Sound of an alarm clock going off for the fifth time
Jovan Ray Wilson
*groans* Why won’t this stupid alarm shut up?
He yanks the plug out of the alarm clock and throws it across the room.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Stop interrupting my sleep!
Just as he tries to doze off again, his phone rings. It’s his former manager.
Jovan Ray Wilson
What now?
Bert
Finally! Hey, J. How are you? You’ve been ignoring my calls. I’m worried, man.
Jovan Ray Wilson
What do you want?
Bert
Don’t be like that. I just wanted to say hi after you’ve ghosted me for 3 months.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Just get to the point, Bert.
Bert
*sighs* Fine. I want to offer you a job.
Jovan Ray Wilson
A job? Why are you offering me a job? I don’t need one right now. I’m an actor. I’ve got plenty of cash.
Bert
You mean a former actor, right? Besides, the job I’m offering isn’t just about the money. It’s about getting back into things slowly. Don’t you remember what happened half a year ago.
Bert
See? You’re still not over it. That’s why I want to help you.
Bert
I can tell you’re mad at me right now. But don’t worry—I’m always here for you because I’m your manager.
Jovan Ray Wilson
*calms down* Alright, Bert. I’ll listen to you.
Bert
Great! I actually want you to help me work at the drama set. We’re short on staff, and I could really use your help.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Seriously? Work at the drama set? You think I want to crawl back to that place. That’s where my career went downhill!
Bert
J, I’m just really trying to help. Your sister keeps asking me about you.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Ugh, my sister keeps pulling my hair! *groans* Fine, I'll help you out, Bert.
Bert
Really?! Awesome, man! I’ll swing by to pick you up, so get ready!
Jovan Ray Wilson
Sure, talk to you later. *beep*
Jovan flops back on his bed, thinking if he made the right choice.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Ugh... I don't have time for this. I need to get ready.
He rushes to his closet looking for casual clothes.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Not this... not this either. *groans* Why don’t I have any simple clothes in here?
He glances down at the floor, seeing his dirty clothes scattered everywhere.
Jovan Ray Wilson
Oh right, I haven't washed my clothes in two months. Whatever, I’ll just wear my old jacket.
He grabs his old jacket and puts it on.
Jovan Ray Wilson
*sniffs it* This should be fine. Time to head out.
As he reaches for the doorknob he suddenly had flashbacks of his old job and gets nervous about what people might say.
Jovan Ray Wilson
*runs to the mirror* I need to fix my hair. I can’t let them recognize me.
He grabs a pair of glasses.
Jovan meets up with Bert outside.
Bert
Are you really going to wear that on your first day?
Jovan
What? You don’t like my clothes? Just drive.
Bert
Alright, let’s go. J, I promise this job will be great for you.
