Episode 2

My name is Carolina Jones, an only child. Unfortunately, I would have loved to have siblings, but it couldn't be. I have always been characterized as a rebel; I don't like injustices or bad comments towards people. As my dad says, I have a short fuse. I studied law and currently work with my dad in his firm, but his hateful secretary is always bothering Belen, a very hardworking girl, but who is harassed for not having a Barbie body. I got angry and threw the chocolate shake I was carrying at her. She told me she would report me to Dad; in response, I raised my middle finger and blew her a kiss. I left there in a fury.

I decided to go see my uncle; he's a sweetheart. Even though he's busy, he always makes time to go out with me, and to calm me down a bit, I plan to invite him to eat. So, I set off in my car while listening to a song that reminds me of my best friend, Cami. She is one of the few friendships I still have. She is very lovely, dedicated, hardworking, simple, and too shy. I met her in college, although we were in different majors, we were always friends. They used to bother her because she came from Canada on an exchange, but her intelligence and discipline spoke for her, making her the best in the generation. She loves the countryside and is addicted to strawberry shakes. I miss her a lot. She had to return to her country but comes to visit her grandmother every year-end for 2 reasons: one, her grandmother can hardly travel, and two, she is very bad with the cold. I have already told her that it is bad weather to come to Chicago on those dates, but she doesn't want to leave her grandmother alone at that time, so the time she spends here in Chicago, I almost move in with them. I really enjoy her company.

In the video call she made to me last month, she introduced me to Bruno, her suitor. God, he is unbearable. There is no love in his eyes, compared to Cami, who is jumping for joy. If he asks her, she is very excited. I had no choice but to support her, although I told her that he was not good for her. I know that the mango of her brother, Noah, doesn't like him either and promised to be aware of her. I wish I could have her here with me always.

I arrive at the company and go up to the top floor. At reception, I meet the rat, as I call Susan, another slippery one. She was my uncle's girlfriend for a few months; thank goodness that relationship didn't last. My uncle broke up with her. I pressed the elevator button, and she tells me

Susan - Jacob is busy in a meeting, honey; he can't receive you.

Carolina - Maybe you, but he always receives me with a smile.

Susan - Well, not this time, so avoid distracting him.

Carolina - Ha, ha, don't make me laugh, Susan. You better get to work; that's not your area.

I entered the elevator and saw her gaze. I sighed and released all tension. When I reached my uncle's floor, I saw that his secretary was not there, so I knocked on the door. I had to explain what happened, and now we are going down with Luke to eat. When the doors open, I see Susan still at reception. I smile with superiority. She approaches, and before she says anything, my uncle does.

Jacob - What are you doing at reception? Unless you want to change positions, I suggest you go where you belong.

Susan - I went down quickly to...

Carolina - Since I went up, you were here; I don't know how long you had been in the same place, Susan. You should consider my uncle's offer.

Susan - I'm going to my place of work.

Luke - Let it not be repeated, Susan.

She nodded and began to walk, as did we. We got into my uncle's van, and he took us to a very luxurious restaurant that he frequents. The food is good, so I don't complain. I was finishing eating when I felt his gaze, and without raising my eyes to him, I replied

Carolina - I'm not going to apologize.

Jacob - Caro, it's not a good attitude you took, and...

Carolina - Aaah, so that slippery one is, sii? Is it okay for her to be talking badly about people and making them feel awful?

Jacob - I didn't say that was okay pe...

Carolina - I already said, uncle, I'm not going to apologize, and if Dad is expecting that, then it's not going to happen. I'd rather resign.

Luke - Caro, the girl's attitude was not good, but neither was yours. What your uncle wants to say is that there are ways to do things.

Carolina - And how do you suggest I do it? I had already warned her, and she didn't pay attention. I'm not going to apologize.

Jacob - Do it for your dad. No one is more important than you. You are his daughter, and he will support you against anyone; don't doubt it.

I sighed

Carolina - You always do the same thing, uncle; you put Dad in the middle, and...

Jacob - Come on, Caro, if it's not enough, do it for me too. I know your dad will take action on the issue of the girl they're bothering.

Carolina - Fine, I'll do it.

Jacob - Thanks, Caro.

Carolina - But I want a chocolate shake.

I saw them smile

Jacob - Well, finish eating, and let's go for the shake.

I smiled pleased. Once we left the restaurant, he bought me my shake. I was about to taste it when my cell phone started ringing. I looked at the screen; it was "Belen"

Carolina - Hello

- Hello Caro, hey, I want to thank you for what you did for me, but don't get into any more trouble

Carolina - Don't worry, she can't keep treating you the same

- I know Caro, but you got into trouble with your dad, and....

Carolina - Don't worry, I'll fix it, okay

- Thanks again, I'll have to buy you a shake as compensation

Carolina - ha, ha, ha, okay, I accept

I hung up the call, put away my phone, and started drinking it, looking with a smile at my uncle and Luke. We arrived at the van, and I got into the back seat. I was about to ask how the program was going when my phone started ringing again. I took it out of my bag and read "Cami." I smiled

Carolina - Helloooo friend co...

I stopped talking when I heard her heavy breathing

Carolina - Friend?

With difficulty, she began to stammer. She was having an asthma attack

Carolina - Breathe, breathe, friend, God, what's happening?

I began to despair; I didn't know what to do, so I thought of Noah, but I didn't know his number by heart

Carolina - I'll call you back from a different number, please answer

I hung up

Carolina - Lend me your cell, uncle, please

He looked at me in the rearview mirror and passed it to me. I immediately dialed Cami's number. From my cell, I dialed Noah. Cami opened the line. I told her

Carolina - Breathe, friend

Immediately, I heard Noah's voice

Noah - Hello Caro c...

Carolina - Is my friend with you?

Noah - No, she went out with that idiot Bruno and...

Carolina - She's in danger, Noah, look for her

Noah - What?

Carolina - Look for her, I'm with her on the other line, I have no idea where she is and...

Jacob - Give me my cell

I raised my gaze. My uncle had already parked

Carolina - Uncle n...

Jacob - I'll tell you where she is

I nodded and gave him the cell. I heard the engine of Noah's car. My uncle handed me the cell, and I saw the point. It was fixed in one place

Carolina - She's on xxxx street, hurry, Noah

Noah - Tell me, does the point move?

Carolina - Nooo Noah it's fixed God I hope she's okay please

Noah - I'm going, calm down

I heard the screeching of tires and Noah's voice calling her

Carolina - Find her Noah

He kept calling her until I heard him say Camila? God but what the hell did he do to you

Carolina - What's going on Noah?

Noah - I have to take her to a hospital Caro I'll call you later

Carolina - No no hang up Noah

Noah - Caro I have to call my parents I'll let you know as soon as I get to the hospital

Carolina - Fine

I hung up. My hands were shaking. I dropped my cell, and my tears came out thinking the worst until Luke said

Luke - Are you okay

I denied and took my cell and dialed Dad as soon as he answered I told him

Issac - Car.....

Carolina - I have to travel Dad

Issac - What? Where are you going? Don't believe that......

Carolina - Dad my friend needs me please Dad I will apologize I will behave better but please I need to go
