The Life Equation – Episode 6

The Life Equation – Episode 6

Evening in the Mansion

The sun had started to set, casting an orange glow through the massive glass windows of the house. Osun, Mercy, Roxanne, and Wealth were finally home after the long day—the football match, the walk, and the teasing from Baba Tunde at the gate.

Osun collapsed onto the soft white couch in the living room, reaching for the remote. Before he could even turn on the TV, a voice boomed from upstairs.

"Osun! Mercy! Roxanne! Wealth! All of you, come upstairs now!"

It was their dad.

Osun groaned. "Na which wahala be this again?"

Mercy shrugged. "No be me cause am oh."

The four of them climbed the wide marble staircase, heading to their father’s office. The door was slightly open, and their mom was already inside, sitting on the couch with her arms crossed. Their dad sat behind his big wooden desk, serious as always.

"What happened at school today?" their father asked, his voice deep and strict.

Osun glanced at his siblings. They had done nothing wrong—or so they thought.

"Nothing, sir," Osun answered, standing straight.

Their dad’s sharp eyes studied them for a moment. Then, he leaned back in his chair and smiled slightly.

"I heard you won your football match today."

Osun blinked in surprise. So this wasn’t about trouble?

"Yes sir," he said, relaxing a little.

Their dad nodded. "Good. You should always aim to win. But don’t let football distract you from your studies. If I see bad grades, there will be consequences."

The room went silent. Everyone knew their father didn’t play with education.

Their mom finally spoke. "Osun, you’re in Year 10 now. It’s time to start thinking about your future. Mercy, Roxanne, Wealth—same for you. What do you all want to become?"

Mercy smirked. "A rich woman."

Roxanne laughed. "Same."

Wealth rolled her eyes. "I want to own businesses."

Osun, who hadn’t thought much about this, shrugged. "I don’t know yet. Maybe football, maybe something else."

Their father nodded slowly. "Just remember, in this family, we don’t do mediocrity. Be the best at whatever you choose."

They all nodded.

"Now go and eat before I change my mind about being nice today," their father said.

The four of them rushed downstairs before their dad could add more lectures.

Dinner Time

The dining room was just as fancy as the rest of the house, with a long table, a chandelier above, and expensive plates that their mom didn’t let them touch unless it was a special occasion.

Dinner was jollof rice, grilled chicken, and plantain—a feast after the long day.

As they ate, Baba Tunde entered the house, standing near the door.

"Oga, one man dey outside. E say e wan see you," Baba Tunde said.

Their father wiped his mouth and stood up. "Who is it?"

"E no talk hin name, but e say you go sabi am."

Their dad’s expression darkened slightly, but he nodded and walked out.

Osun exchanged a glance with Mercy. Who could that be?
