Start of the story.

The morning sun filtered through the large windows of the Survey Corps’ headquarters, casting a golden glow over the long wooden dining tables. The air smelled of fresh bread, stew, and something slightly burnt—probably Sasha’s doing.

The room was lively, filled with chatter and laughter as the soldiers ate their breakfast. Eren and Jean were already at it again, exchanging insults between bites, while Connie was dramatically reenacting yesterday’s training session, much to Sasha’s amusement.

At the entrance, Erwin Smith stepped inside, his sharp eyes scanning the room. The moment the soldiers noticed his presence, the room fell silent. Every one of them stood up and saluted immediately.

Erwin Smith

"At ease," *Erwin said calmly, then stepped aside*

Beside him stood a woman, her expression composed yet guarded.

Erwin Smith

"This is Y/n L/n. From today onwards, she will be part of your squad," *Erwin announced.*

Curious eyes turned toward her.

Sasha Braus

*Sasha was the first to react. She quickly swallowed the bread in her mouth before grinning.* "Another squadmate? Awesome! Oh, do you like meat?"

Y/n

*Y/n blinked, slightly caught off guard.* "Uh…"

Connie Springer

"It doesn’t matter," *Connie smirked.* "Sasha just wants to know if she has to fight you for food."

Sasha Braus

*Sasha smacked his shoulder.* "I do not!"

Jean Kirstein

"Yeah, sure," *Jean muttered, rolling his eyes.* "She’d probably trade a comrade’s life for a steak."

Mikasa Ackerman

*Mikasa, sitting beside Eren, shot Jean a disapproving look.* "Don’t be ridiculous."

Eren Yeager

*Eren ignored them, his teal eyes focused on Y/n instead.* "You trained for years before joining, right? What made you decide to enlist in the Survey Corps?"

His tone was serious—too serious for a simple introduction.

Y/n

*Y/n met his gaze but hesitated before answering.* "I have my reasons."

Reiner Braun

"Everyone does," *Reiner said, his voice calm yet firm.* "But what matters is that you’re here now."

Beside him, Bertholdt nodded silently.

Connie Springer

"Yeah, yeah," *Connie chimed in, leaning forward with an eager grin.* "But what we really wanna know is—are you cool, or are you another stick-in-the-mud like Jean?"

Jean Kirstein

*Jean groaned.* "Why do I even talk to you?"

Petra Ral

*Petra chuckled at the banter.* "Don’t mind them, Y/n. You’ll get used to it."

Ymir

*Ymir, sitting back in her chair with her arms crossed, smirked.* "Or you won’t. Either way, watching is entertaining."

Christa Lenz (Historia Reiss)

*Christa nudged her.* "Be nice, Ymir."

Ymir

"I am nice," *Ymir said lazily.* "I haven’t even scared her off yet."

Armin Arlert

*Armin, who had been observing quietly, finally spoke up.* "If Erwin assigned you here, then you must be skilled. I’d love to hear more about your experiences sometime."

Y/n nodded politely, but instead of joining them at the table, she quietly moved to sit farther away.

She wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, but socializing wasn’t something she did often. Years of being alone made it a habit to keep her distance.

Sasha Braus

*Sasha, noticing her lack of food, frowned.* "Aren’t you gonna eat with us?"

Y/n

"I’m full," *Y/n replied simply.*

Sasha Braus

*Sasha gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her chest.* "Full? But it’s breakfast!"

Annie Leonhart

"Not everyone inhales food like you," *Annie muttered, barely looking up from her plate.*

Sasha Braus

*Sasha pouted.* "That’s rude, Annie."

Connie Springer

"It’s true," *Connie said, grinning.*

The group continued their usual banter, but every now and then, Y/n could feel their glances toward her. Not in a bad way—just curiosity.

Reiner Braun

"She’s quiet," *Reiner murmured to Bertholdt.* ('I find it cute tho.. Wait what?!') *Secretly blushing to himself.*

Bertholdt Hoover

*Bertholdt nodded.* "Maybe she just needs time."

Jean Kirstein

*Jean smirked.* "Or maybe she’s just judging all of us."

Ymir

"Can you blame her?" *Ymir added, resting her chin on her hand.* "I’d judge us too."

As the conversations carried on, the door creaked open, and the room fell silent once more.

Levi Ackerman had arrived.
