The Discovery

" The Discovery"
Taehyung had always found comfort in the forgotten things the dusty corners of thrift stores, the musty smell of old books, and the worn-out edges of vintage objects. His small apartment, cluttered with such treasures, had become a sanctuary for him. It was a place where time slowed down, where the weight of modern life could be momentarily forgotten. But today, he found something that would change his life in ways he couldn’t have imagined. He ran his fingers across an old, weathered typewriter in the corner of the dimly lit store, its dark brown frame chipped with age. Taehyung was no stranger to vintage treasures. He had an eye for them, drawn to items that had stories to tell items that, like him, seemed to exist just outside the current world. But this typewriter was different. There was something about it that pulled him in deeper than usual, an almost magnetic draw. The memory of his grandmother’s voice echoed in his mind. “You should visit the thrift store down the street, Taehyung. I’m sure there’s something there for you. Something you’ll love.” She had said it so many times, nagging him about the tiny, cluttered shop on the edge of town. At first, Taehyung had dismissed her suggestions. He had been busy, buried in his daily routine, his life feeling monotonous and detached. But after she passed away two months ago, the echoes of her words lingered in his mind, always with a twinge of guilt for not having listened sooner. Today, the nagging voice felt like a sign. Maybe she had known that he needed to visit this store, that he needed to find something. The grief still weighed heavily on him, his grandmother’s absence leaving a hole in his heart. It was her steady presence that had always grounded him, especially after his parents’ departure from his life when he was young. Without her, everything felt incomplete, like a book with pages missing. He turned to the shopkeeper, who was busy rearranging items on a shelf nearby.

“Is it for sale?”
His voice hesitant but curious.
The old shop owner glanced up, his eyes twinkling behind round glasses.

“But I reckon it’s ready to find a new owner. Not many people seek out typewriters these days.”
Taehyung hesitated. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was looking for, but he knew he needed something to break the monotony of his life. Something to spark a new connection, a new purpose.

“I’ll take it,”
His decision made as if the typewriter had been waiting for him all along
The shopkeeper gave him a knowing smile as he wrapped it up and handing Taehyung the box with the typewriter

"You know some things are meant to be passed on, not just sold."
Taehyung didn’t quite understand what he meant, but he didn’t question it. With the typewriter now in his hands, he felt a strange sense of anticipation like he was on the verge of something, though he wasn’t sure what.
Once home, Taehyung set the typewriter on his desk and plugged it in. He admired its simple elegance and its quiet power. After a few moments of staring at the blank sheet of paper he had inserted, he took a deep breath and began to type, letting the rhythm of the keys flow naturally. It felt oddly soothing, like returning to an old, familiar place.

“Hello,” a playful smirk on his lips. “I don’t know why I’m doing this, but here goes nothing”
He pressed the return key and looked at the words on the paper, his fingers still resting on the cold metal. The typewriter was silent for a moment, and Taehyung chuckled to himself, wondering if anyone else had ever used this machine for something so trivial.
But then, a soft click echoed from the machine, and something unexpected happened. A new line appeared on the paper.
???
???
“Hello, Who are you?”
Taehyung’s eyes widened. He blinked, unsure of what he was seeing. The letters were typed in perfect, neat script different from his own. He quickly looked over his shoulder, half-expecting someone to be in the room with him. But it was just him, the quiet apartment, and the typewriter. It had to be some sort of mistake.
He quickly stood up and examined the machine. Could it be broken? Was there some malfunction with the mechanism? But no, everything seemed to be in order. His heartbeat quickened as he returned to the desk, staring at the new message.
“Who are you?” Taehyung repeated aloud, his voice slightly shaky. There was no way this could be real. Could the machine have some sort of... magic?
With trembling hands, he typed back, unsure if he was being ridiculous or if something truly inexplicable was happening.

“I’m Taehyung. And you are?”
A moment passed before the typewriter responded again.

" Jungkook "
Taehyung felt a chill run down his spine. Something was happening. Something beyond his comprehension. His fingers hovered over the keys, the weight of the situation settling in. Was he really talking to someone through time? Or was this just a strange trick of his mind? He didn’t know yet. But one thing was certain: this typewriter had opened a door to something he couldn’t ignore. And perhaps, somewhere deep inside, Taehyung felt his grandmother had known exactly what he needed.
