Episode 2: A New Spark
Leon stood awkwardly in the crowded corridor, clutching his books close to his chest. It was his second week at his new Blackwood high school, and he still felt out of place. As he navigated through the bustling crowd, he accidentally bumped into someone.
"Sorry," he muttered, looking up to see Zoe, the girl he had met yesterday.
"No worries," Zoe replied with a smile. "Hey, you're Leon, right? We have the same class today?"
Leon nodded, his heart pounding. "Yeah, looks like it."
"Finally after a week we are having a class together," Zoe replied.
They walked to class together, making small talk. Zoe's cheerful nature contrasted with Leon's introversion, but he found it surprisingly easy to talk to her. When they entered the classroom, they found their seats next to each other.
As the lesson progressed, Leon focused on the teacher's words, trying to ignore the butterflies in his stomach. Suddenly, he heard a soft clatter. Zoe's pen had rolled off her desk and onto the floor. Without any delay, both Leon and Zoe bent down to pick it up.
Their hands brushed against each other, sending a jolt of electricity through Leon's body. He glanced at Zoe and saw her blushing slightly. She quickly picked up the pen and sat back up, but Leon couldn't shake off the feeling of the brief contact.
"Thanks," Zoe whispered, her voice a bit shaky.
"No problem," Leon replied, feeling a strange warmth spreading through him.
For the rest of the class, Leon found it hard to concentrate. His thoughts kept drifting back to that moment. He wondered if Zoe had felt the same spark he did. As the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson, Zoe turned to him.
"Wanna grab lunch together?" she asked, her eyes twinkling.
Leon hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Sure, that sounds good."
On the way to the corridor, a lot of students were fighting, playing and placing books in the locker.
During that time, those who were fighting, pushed a boy straight into Zoe. Due to that Zoe was pushed against the locker, banging her hand into it. This caused her pain.
Suddenly, Leon approached her, "Are you alright?", "Does it hurt so much?"
To which Zoe nodded, "Yes, it does pain a bit, but not much!"
Out of nowhere, Leon got furious and walked towards the bully and punched him in his face. "What were you thinking? A gangster? One more time, try to pick up someone, and you are doomed". He whispered silently to his ears after punching.
Zoe was shocked and grabbed Leon out of the place.
"You....... did all that for..... me? " Zoe asked while her hand is still in pain.
Leon nodded. "Of course, I did that for you. You are my......... best friend I got here"
Zoe asked him to join the lunch. And Leon nodded.
Zoe suddenly grabbed Leon's hand while walking. Leon was in gasp. He couldn't believe his eyes.
As they walked to the cafeteria, Leon couldn't help but feel that this new school might not be so bad after all. There was something about Zoe that made him feel more comfortable, more at ease. as they started to walk to have lunch, he realized that maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of a new friendship—or something more.
