CHAPTER 4: THE SILENT RECIPIENT

On the same bright, busy day in Seoul, across town from Hopeworld, another story unfolds—this time in a lively high school filled with its usual chaos. The morning is noisy, with students rushing in, some of them late as usual, being caught by the ever-watchful disciplinary teacher. The latecomers grumble under their breath, whining in unison, "Why are you so mean to us, Teach?"

The teacher, a strict figure in their lives, chuckles internally but keeps a stoic face, enjoying the adorable antics of the students even as she oversees their punishments. Meanwhile, in the classrooms, the scene is no different from any other day. Some students diligently take notes, trying to keep up with the lesson, while others gossip in hushed voices, sharing the latest rumors and giggling behind their notebooks. A few restless souls, tired of their daily grind, mutter, "When will we be free from this hell?"

In the midst of the usual high school ruckus, one student stands out—quiet, focused, and minding his own business. That student is Choi Yeonjun, a young boy who used to be full of life and chatter, but now sits silently, taking notes in his history class. His bright eyes, once bubbly with mischief, now remain calm and serious. Something changed in him after a tragic incident shattered his heart into a million pieces, leaving him with no desire to speak much to anyone.

As the school day drags on, Yeonjun remains the picture of concentration, completing his lessons with an intensity that reflects his desire to escape into his studies. When the final bell rings, signaling the end of the day, Yeonjun packs up his belongings and starts his usual 10-minute walk back to the dormitory where he lives. The route is familiar, the path peaceful. He slips on his headphones, drowning out the world as he walks to the beat of his music, bobbing his head slightly to the rhythm.

When he finally arrives at the dormitory, he checks in with the warden, flashing his ID with a tired smile. He makes his way up to the 6th floor where he shares a room with two other students. But as he approaches his door, something strange catches his attention—a small parcel, hanging from the door handle.

Yeonjun pauses, pulling out his earphones, his brow furrowed in confusion. A parcel? For him? His thoughts swirl in uncertainty as he reaches for the package. "Who would send me a parcel?" he wonders. "I don't really have anyone who would send me anything... is this a prank?"

He takes the package inside, unlocking the door and tossing his school bag and shoes messily onto the floor. His heart beats a little faster as he sits on his bed, examining the package. Something about it feels off. But curiosity wins over hesitation, and Yeonjun starts tearing at the packaging.

Inside, he finds a voucher—addressed to him, with his name clearly written on it. His eyes widen in shock, disbelief flashing across his face. "What is this?" he thinks, studying the details with increasing confusion. He feels a strange thrill creeping up his spine, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. The voucher, though seemingly harmless, carries an air of mystery that unsettles him.

Why would he receive a voucher? And what could it possibly mean?

Questions flood his mind, his earlier exhaustion now forgotten.
