The tempest outside had passed, taking with it all the rumbling and thunder; inside, it was crisp and clean with an undertone of pine and rain. Ethan wasn't really reading the reports strewn across his desk; he was staring at Kai as he methodically arranged a stack of files that needed to be put in order, his back to Ethan. The way his shoulders danced with every movement, his slight dip of the waist when he reached down to grab a folder, it all stirred something inside of Ethan he couldn't ignore.
"Kai," Ethan said, his voice rough with suppressed desire. "Can you get me a cup of coffee?"
Kai turned; his eyes locked with Ethan's. "Of course, Mr.WELLBERT." He paused and said, "Do you need anything else?"
"Just the coffee," Ethan said, his gaze fixed on Kai's lips. "And perhaps. some company."
Kai's cheeks filled with color as he took in the unspoken suggestion. He nodded, a bashful smile tugging at his mouth, and left the office.
And he stood there, watching him go, his heart thumping in his chest. He had never felt this way with anyone before, this overwhelming need, this desire to break down walls that had surrounded himself. But here was Kai with quiet strength and a gentle spirit, cracking open just a part of Ethan he didn't know existed.
When Kai came in with the coffee, Ethan saw the nervous hands that set the mug on his desk. He reached out, his fingers skimming over Kai's, both of them feeling the spark of electricity along those two planes of flesh.
"Thank you," Ethan rasped, eyes on the mug. He took a sip of the coffee, warmth seeping into him, like the warmth radiating off of Kai.
"Thank you, Mr. WELLBERT," Kai whispered, his eyes fixed on Ethan.
Ethan leaned forward, his eyes racing over Kai's. He saw the flicker of fear, the hesitant desire, and a spark of something that felt like love. He couldn't ignore the pull, the yearning that had held him in its grasp.
He leaned forward, a hand that curved to cradle the curve of Kai's cheek, his thumb tracing the curve of his jaw. "Call me Ethan," he whispered low.
Kai's breath caught, his eyes wide with surprise. He leaned into Ethan's touch, a sigh escaping his lips. "Ethan," he breathed back, not too loud.
It crackled with promises unsaid. Ethan's eyes fell to Kai's lips, his every breath making desire increase with each second that went by. He leaned in his lips merely grazing the smile of Kai only for it to instantaneously grow into passionate kissing. The kiss, a stolen moment of passion amidst the sterile confines of Ethan's office, left both men breathless and yearning for more. But the reality of their situation crashed down upon them like a cold shower. Ethan, the powerful CEO, and Kai, his humble secretary, were playing a dangerous game. Their secret, if exposed, could shatter their lives.
