Kat stared blankly at her phone, Emma’s message glowing on the screen. She had been trying to keep up appearances for as long as she could, but now the truth was clear: her career was slipping through her fingers. She couldn't ignore the feeling of dread that had settled in her stomach. Her name was becoming synonymous with scandal in the industry, and no one was willing to give her a chance anymore.
Kat, are you okay? I heard what happened. Please, let me know you're alright. I’m here for you.
Emma had been a bright young actress who had admired Kat from the beginning. When she first entered the industry, Emma had looked up to her as a role model. They had shared a bond, one that Kat cherished. But now, seeing Emma’s message only reminded her of how much her career had changed. Emma was on the rise, while Kat was stuck in a downward spiral.
She hesitated before replying. She didn’t want to burden Emma with her problems. But Emma had always been kind to her, and for a moment, she allowed herself to feel the comfort of that friendship.
I’m not okay, Emma. Everything’s falling apart. I don't know how to fix it.
The reply was almost immediate.
You’re not alone, Kat. We can figure this out together. Just let me know how I can help.
Kat smiled sadly. She knew Emma meant well, but the truth was, no one could fix this for her. Not when the very people who should be protecting her—the ones in power—were the ones causing her downfall.
Sam's POV
Meanwhile, Sam was pacing around the living room of his mansion, his thoughts swirling with determination. After his conversation with Aaron, he knew what needed to be done. Kat’s career was on the line, and he wasn’t about to let some sleazy director ruin her life. She had saved him when he was at his lowest, and now, it was his turn to return the favor.
"You know, you’re really going through with this, huh?" Aaron said from the couch, sipping his coffee. "I didn’t think you’d be this invested."
"I’m not going to sit back and watch her get destroyed," Sam replied, his voice firm. "I have enough influence in this industry to change things. She deserves a shot, Aaron. She’s not what they’re saying she is."
Aaron set down his cup and leaned forward, his eyes serious. "This isn’t just about helping her, Sam. You know that, right? It’s going to make headlines. People are going to talk about you, about her. And it’s going to look… complicated."
Sam’s jaw clenched. "I don’t care how it looks. I care about what’s right."
He grabbed his phone and quickly dialed a number. When the line picked up, he didn’t waste time with pleasantries.
"I need you to find out everything you can about the director spreading these rumors about Kat. I want dirt on him, anything that can shut him down."
"On it, boss," Aaron’s voice came back, already in action.
Kat’s POV
Kat sat on the edge of her bed, clutching her phone, unsure whether to reach out to Emma again. The weight of everything was starting to crush her. She hadn’t been able to land a single audition in weeks, and now, with the director’s lies making their rounds, her agent had all but cut ties with her. She had no choice but to face the uncomfortable truth: she was becoming irrelevant in an industry that thrived on fresh faces.
Her phone buzzed once again, and this time, it was from Jack.
Kat, we need to meet. There’s something you should know.
Her heart sank. What more could there be? She had no idea what Jack could say that would make things better.
She texted back quickly.
What’s going on, Jack?
We need to talk in person. It’s bad, Kat. I’ll meet you at your place in an hour.
Sam's POV
Sam couldn’t shake the feeling that time was running out for Kat. He had spent the past few days gathering information about the director who had been tarnishing her reputation. It wasn’t just rumors that were being spread—it was an orchestrated attack, and the director had powerful allies. Sam knew he had to act fast.
When Aaron finally sent over the information, Sam was stunned by how far the director was willing to go. He had connections in all the right places, and he was using them to blacklist Kat. But there was one thing the director didn’t know: Sam had just as much power, and he was determined to use it.
"Alright," Sam said, a plan forming in his mind. "It’s time to take action."
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "What’s the play?"
"I’m going to put the pressure on this guy," Sam said with a grin. "I’ll make it clear to everyone who’s supporting him that their reputations are on the line too. If they keep backing him, they risk being seen as part of the problem."
Aaron nodded. "You really think that’ll work?"
"It’s the only way. It’s time to show the industry that Kat isn’t someone they can walk all over."
Kat’s POV
Later that evening, Kat sat in her apartment, staring out the window at the city lights. It was a beautiful view, but it only served to remind her how far removed she had become from the life she once had. She had no answers, no way out. She didn’t even know where to start.
When there was a knock at her door, she jumped. She opened it to find Jack standing there, his face grim.
"Jack, what’s going on?" she asked, her voice small.
Jack stepped inside, sitting down heavily on the couch. "Kat, I don’t know how to say this, but… we’ve been hearing rumors that Sam’s getting involved."
"Sam?" Kat’s voice faltered. "What do you mean?"
"Your situation has reached the top, Kat. Sam’s pushing back against the director, making it clear that he’s not going to stand by and watch you get blacklisted. He’s making waves."
Kat blinked, stunned. "But… why would he do that for me?"
"Because he’s not just some celebrity on a pedestal," Jack said, his voice softening. "He owes you, Kat. He knows what you did for him, and he’s not going to let anyone take you down."
For the first time in weeks, a flicker of hope sparked inside Kat. Maybe—just maybe—things were about to change.
