CHAPTER FIVE
*Vera heart pounds in her chest as she hesitates, but she knows there’s no point in resisting. Slowly, she begins to undo her dress, the fabric slipping off her shoulders, revealing her skin.*
She stands exposed before Lucian, her skin prickling with the cold air. Her body trembles, though whether from fear or the vulnerability of being so bare in front of him, she isn’t sure. He stands up slowly, his robe shifting slightly as he moves closer to her.*
Lucian
*His voice cold, detached* “You’re just like the others. Weak. Fragile.”
*He raises a hand and, without warning, traces his fingers along her collarbone, down her arm, his touch sending an unfamiliar shiver through her body. Her breath hitches as his fingers trail along her skin, making her feel strange—something she’s never felt before.*
Vera’s Thoughts:** *This is the first time... anyone has ever touched me.*
*Lucian's gaze remains filled with disdain, his fingers continuing their cold exploration of her body. Despite his touch being light, almost disinterested, it burns into her, stirring an uncomfortable mixture of fear and something else she can't quite place.*
Lucian
*his voice lowering to a near whisper* “Remember your place, human. You are here to serve me. Nothing more.”
*Lucian leans back into the plush cushions of his grand chair, his robe loosely draped over his body. Vera stands, her heart pounding as she waits for his next command, the chill of the room doing little to calm her nerves.*
*Vera blinks, her body almost sagging in relief. He wasn’t going to kill her. Not yet, at least. She turns, grateful for the chance to escape his presence, her bare feet making soft taps against the cold floor.*
Vera
*whisper* Thank god… I can breathe. I didn’t think I’d survive this first night. Maybe he’ll—*
