Captive to the Vampire Prince
CHAPTER TWO
*The dusty road is crowded with villagers, whispers filling the air as Vera stands in front of her home, the only house she’s ever known. Her adoptive parents stand behind her, holding tightly to their biological daughter’s hand.*
Adopted Mother
*coldly* “You understand why this must be done, Vera.”
Vera
*her voice trembling* “But… I’ve done nothing wrong. Why me?”
Adopted Father
*avoiding her gaze* “You’re not one of us. It was always going to be you.”
*Vera looks down, her heart pounding in her chest as the reality sets in. The Vampire Clan had demanded a girl, and they had chosen her. Her hands tremble as she clenches her fists, trying to fight the tears welling up in her eyes.*
Lisa
*softly, almost guilty* “I’m sorry, Vera…”
Vera
*biting back her anger* “No, you’re not.”
*Before anyone can respond, a dark carriage arrives, pulled by black horses. Two vampire soldiers step out, their pale faces unreadable as they approach Vera.*
Vampire Soldier 1
*gruffly* “Is this the one?”
*The adoptive parents nod quickly, stepping back as if relieved to be done with her.*
Vera
Her voice breaking* “Please… don’t do this…”
Adopted Mother
*coldly* “This is for the good of the family, Vera. Don’t make it harder than it has to be.”
*The soldiers grab Vera by the arms, pulling her toward the carriage. She struggles, her breath coming in short gasps, but she’s no match for their strength.*
Vera
*crying out* “No! Please! Don’t let them take me!”
*Her adoptive family turns their backs, not a word of protest. The door to the carriage slams shut, and Vera is left in the suffocating silence of her own despair as the horses begin to move, taking her toward her fate with the Vampire Clan.*
